Purchasing Headlight with halos

A guy from the area wants to trade his headlights with the housing blacked out and halos installed(the ones that are yellow rings when off) for my stock headlights. He was trying to get rid of his car but for some reason i find it sketchy that someone who put so much money into their headlights wants stock ones and take a huge loss. I may go check these out this weekend. Is there anything i should be looking for? I know about condensation but i need some other things to take a close look at. I dont want to get these and then have issues with them down the road.

Condensation is the first that comes to mind. You may also want to swap your ballast into his headlight, just in case his on it way out. Other than that, just check the outer lens make sure they're not UV burnt or start yellowing. Most noticeable is right by the side marker. Check if any tab are broken and cracks anywhere.

Look them over really well but in many cases most car owners realize the most value when selling their car as a completely stock vehicle and prefer to trade out for OE parts.

Look for lens issues - yellowing, hazing, spidering inside (happens sometimes when you bake them). Also look to see if they are properly sealed or if the sealant is spotty or he used silicone (not good). Make sure the halos are attached well, if they fall off you have to open the headlight again and that the wiring isn't some hack job. Also, look at the paint to see if he did a decent job.

He may want to trade out because a lot of people are wary of buying a modified car so he wants it as stock as possible. Or he's trying to trade it in and the dealer will definitely ding him for aftermarket stuff.

FWIW, it doesn't take a ton of money to modify the headlights. The halo rings are $50 each pair and paint is a couple of bucks for a can. It's all labor and if he did it himself, it's not a big deal.

So I checked out the headlights, They weren't put together that well. The rings looked like they were not really attached, He used Silicone as a sealant and it was a poor job on that. No condensation but a few spots in the headlights. I ended up not taking the offer.
