Purchasing Advice/opinion needed.

Hello all,

Im gonna try to make this quick and short, and i hope im posting in the right area. So ive been searching and searching for a decently priced FX35 with decent miles. Ive saved up cash for the purchase cause i really dont wanna finance and have payments and all that stuff. So i found an ad online (im located in Miami) for a car. I found it shady cause the guy is asking 16 k cash or finance and in addition a trade in car, so i called him up to see what its about, and hes like yah just come by and see it. So i get there, its beautiful , Berrlyium color , 2 tone black and orange leather, Navigation, back up cam even a DVD in hanging in the back, sports package with the 20 inch rims everything i could possibly want, and i prefer the "old" look of the FX so i dont mind getting a decent 2004 to 2007, this one just happens to be a 2005 with 51k miles, which is surprisingly low so i was excited, so im like ok this has to be too good to be true especially for the price and all, but i test drove it, everything seems to be fine, although the automatic computer screen did show its due for an oil change and all 4 tires are practically gone... and the belts probably need a change, minor stuff, carfax only showed 2 service records. Intertior and exterior nearly perfect though. So i run a car fax and it says in 2008 this car had 68k miles ??? so im like well thats odd how could that be possible if i seen it just yesterday and it had 51k miles ? so thats a huge red flag, and im just curious as to what i can do further to check and find out more details on this car, although CARFAX says everything is fine, no salvage, no rebuilt title, and no odometer tampering has been reported on this car, so i just dont know what to think, any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you all for listening.

if you have the vin number i would go to your local infiniti dealer and ask for a history print out of the fx35. Regards to the odometer situation, that is definitely a red flag and i would highly recommend looking for a different fx35 without such issues. I bought my 04 fx35 with two tone, navi ,sports + tech package w/ 36k miles around 20k last year.
Buying cars in general requires lot of patients which i have learned through my mistakes. To avoid any latent consequences, I would move on and look at other fx's around your area. I hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes.

welcome to is! good move on the cash purchase plan, though watch out for this one.

did you ask the seller about the miles? the only thing i can think of that may explain this is that maybe the guage cluster was replaced (i know our van has the mileage info on the cluster).

you can also try contacting the infiniti dealer that serviced the fx and ask for any major repair besides recall or basic service.

if there is no documentation on the mileage issue, this vehicle may be "branded" tmu or true mileage unknown. you can use this to bargain, and it will also decrease the value of the fx further.

good luck on your decision. if you decide to pursue this further, be sure to bring it to a mechanic or an infiniti dealer for an inspection.

i would honestly get to the dealer and get more info, and concerning carfax, i dont always trust it, last year my cousin was trying to sell his car that has never been into an accident or anything, buyer showed him a carfax that stated front end damage- false

Thanks guys for the advice, yeah im going to see the seller again today and indirectly confront them about the miles and see what they say,i had a buddy of mine who knows alof about cars and especially this engine who says it seems clean, although a full inspection was done. Im gonna ask him to go down on the price by alot, cause for all i know i could be driving an FX with 150 k miles or more, but its weird cause the car from the inside and out does not have any wear on it, as you would expect a car to have with 100+ miles.... and then i wonder if when taken to the DMV for title and registration will they not process it for the miles be lower than it was officially recorded 3 years ago ? lol i mean i dont mind driving a car with somewhat high miles, as long as its not been hammered and tortured engine wise, which i guess i will never know, although i know looks can be deceiving but wow, this thing looks brand new inside and out, id hate to drop the 15k i have saved on this and it give me more problems than i need, but its a tough situation, im gonna go see the seller and discuss further and see what i come up with, yes i do need to take my time, BUT ive been searching for 3+ months and ive not came accross one this good, for that price, the only bummer is this mileage count being different, got some brainstorming to do lol. Any additional information or advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated, thanks all !!!

Yeah me and my friends were thinking that maybe possibly false ?? error ? i dunno, it would be a dream come to true if it was infact incorrect.... so all i need to do is going to an infiniti dealership and give them the VIN to run a report ?? how much would this cost ?
