Car
2006 Infiniti FX35
so i bought my fx last year from a pivate owner -

i took the car to a shop they had looked over the car, only thing they found wrong was cd player not working and fender being replaced which owner admits those.

carfax said the car is clean not with any issues -

owner of the car has a shop so he never took to the dealer for stuff or care for recalls casue the car sat in his house for years not being used.

i bought with 50k miles and its 2003

So anyway i took to the dealer for replacing my dash -
so they call me later telling me there doing 8 recalls that never been done
& they can do the dash but they think someone messed with the wires in the back
so if something goes wrong or dont work right.. they not resposiable for anything
casue it seems like there is "modifcation" casue my cd player dont work & also since i changed my hid's thats another reason. i asked can they remove the dash and see if there is.. and if its than its a no go... he said.. if we remove it than its done we cant go back. we will just put the new dash on and you deal with the issues of it.

so i need to call them tmw and tell them.. to go ahead replace it or not.

i honeslty wanna tell them..

"i brought the car in working cond. and i wanted the car to leave on the way i brought it... while your change the dash and you mess something.. its on you..."

what do ya think i should do ????

I would go in person and request for their tech to point out the modifications and document it with pics that you yourself take. Ask them to explain in detail (while you are there in person and while showing you) the modifications that they can see/suspect. It is possible the previous owner had aftermarket stereo/alarm/ipod/hardwired aux device installed and before selling removed the device. It could be as simple as a hardwired radar detector or something more complicated.

Documentation is key. As of right now you are not under warranty and they are within their right to just do the recalls and nothing more. If anything the documentation will give you a clue as to what was altered and how you may remedy it later on.

Just curious as to which dealer it is?

What other recalls are they conducting?

well they are saying... they wont take the dash off at all without me saying go for it. cause if it does and messes up they dont wanna be in fault. so if i go there they wont show me the modification.

I do have an ipod adapter tho that i got it few months ago...
oh and i took to southwest. i kinda wanna just take it and than go to clear lake since my parents have a house there i can just spend a day or two there... maybe they are nicer lol

well they did something to the breaks
also something to trunk... i belive also a fule line.. or some hose.

You are within your right to refuse and seek help elsewhere. I have no experience with other Infiniti dealerships (only Clear Lake) and they are alright, nothing spectacular. You can always call Clear Lake and set up an appointment (I wouldn't tell them about the other dealership/dash scenario, but it is probably documented already if Infiniti USA has a database).

I think it's BS that they will not show you/explain what modifications they are talking about and how they could "see" the wiring modifications behind the dash without removing things already.

for once give them the slightest benefit of the doubt and try to understand that they saw something that looked kinda messy and didn't wanna be held accountable for repair when they are just trying to replace the dash. the best things you can do is go look at everything yourself or visit another stealership. in some sense, it's good that your dealership let you know there are things in your car that's out of ordinary and that they aren't doing anything about it without your permission.

Plus Adam you sound like you're fairly young, which may be another reason why they think they can walk all over you.

Ageism FTL!

I get the car back Monday, i plan on lay low for now casue its like a headache dealing with it -
but anyway i talk to the dude again today -
i was like how much am i looking to spend to fix if there is issues after the new replacment... he is like i dont know whats wrong it.. than im like how do you say that there is a chance that stuff wont work right after new dash being put on.

he is like well your clock and cd player dont work
i said my clock can be a simple fuse... and dont all your infiniti have cd player issues

he goes like i think your getting confused... you should stop by and ill show you.
i was like so my dash is off ??? he is like no.. im like so what your going to show me
he is like a new dash... im like why do i wanna see that.... sigh*

im not saying they suck or what not... but how can they predict that shit its going to go wrong casue a clock dont work or cd player.. but they never took the dash off to see whats under there.. casue they admit that the dash hasnt been removed or will be removed without my premission but they can sure tell me that outcome and what can go wrong.

its like going to a whore house and saying "oh this girl could have adis and maybe this one not"

They're protecting themselves against a claim from you that you may potentially make. If there is an aftermarket system behind the dash (ie iPod connector, alarm, etc.) they may have to disconnect it in order to remove the dash. Once they disconnect it they will not reconnect it because they do not want to be liable if that item should cause you problems in the future. Imagine if they reconnected an aftermarket backup camera system and then a few days later it stopped working. You would most likely blame them and they may or may not be the ones who caused it. Therefore their option is to not do the job at all, do the job but only reattach the factory items or attempt to do the complete job including aftermarket items but have you give a waiver.

Certain customers give off a vibe they will be trouble. Unfortunately due to your age and understandable frustration with the situation you may be giving off that vibe. I'd try talking to them over the phone again and ask what in their opinion is aftermarket in the vehicle so you can make a more informed decision about your options.

Adam you're crazy bro! hahahahaha.

Ok well they don't have any idea if the wiring has been altered, they are just saying that because the CD player and the clock doesn't work. Well I say let them do the dash and ask them to call you if there is something wrong with wiring so that they can show you and explain it to you.

Remember though, if you be nice and understanding the service advisor will go out of his/her way to help you. So try and be nice, bite your tongue and curse them under your breath like I do lol.

If you don't want to replace the dash with them, then do what you said and lay low. Have it done at Clear Lake Infiniti later on instead, but before it goes in try to figure out why the CD player clock isn't working.

Southwest Infiniti made me crazy lol:tongue (2):

Well i wanna make them do it that... but i dont wanna them to call me few hours later and tell me this and this and this is wrong.. we can fix it but for an arm and leg.

im on tight budget right now...

& i tryed to be nice... 1st i had a guy name Philip Martinez.. now some other guy calls me with the name Mark.

I will most likey end up waiting and trying to figure out why my clock dont work

CD Player its a typical infiniti thing from what i read here on IS.

So was philip not able to help? Why did they give you a different guy?

I'm a little confused. So what did they do to make them think there was "modifications" with the wiring? I guess they started with removing the radio? And did they mention the hids? I doubt having hids have anything to do with it...

If you really feel that frustrated with them, I say just let them do the recall work and bring it to Clear Lake for the dash work.

Sent from my Samsung Vibrant

When i went there... i talked to philip and he took my keys and he gave me the loaner car.

I didnt hear from him at all till yesterday when i went to pick up the car -

I talked to some guy name Mark..

According to Mark. they havent removed anything. They saw my clock not working and they saw my cd player dont work and he called me.

He said my HID's are aftermarket becasue there was a recall on HID's so i guess they were trying to fix that too lol.

Recall was on the headlights and tails should just changed the headlights and put the bulbs back in i did those recalls had no problem you clock n radio look like fuse i say get your car back n fix those issues yourself through the forum n go to another dealership.

Well since nothing was done, when you are ready to have the dash installed choose another dealership (if so desired). In the meantime track down the other problems (like everyone else said) and get it working.

They have/had no clue if anything aftermarket was on your FX other than your HID bulbs (never even pulled out the headunit to see the if the wiring was tampered with). So (like others said) start with the easiest things that could cause them not to work when you have time.
