Pre-Bose Amp Wire Colors

The box itself is awesome!!! Though this one is discontinued, there are other options out there. I just like the self contained nature of it; especially if I need to yank it real quick.

just get a JL if you can. they've got a smallish footprint and are fully digital now. i have a pair of Phoenix Golds in my other car and they're great, but they're kinda big and they run a little warm. whatever you get, just make sure it has airflow.

and i HIGHLY recommend the JL W6s and W7s. i've had both and they are great. the W3 is a good budget option though and only requires 1.0 cu ft of space.

did your car come with a factory option? you could replace it with a freeair and just hide the amp in the trunk. my M has the Bose sub, but it fades out as the volume increases. that's pretty much the ONLY reason i have investigated this. i feel robbed. haha.

I was looking at these amps:

Audison SR 1
Alpine PDX M6
JL 500/1

and these 10" subs:

JL 10w3v3
Alpine SWR 10d4

I don't need alot as I will keep the rest of the oem system. I would like the box to be sealed. Box would be around .625 cu

The 1st plan was to replace the oem bose woofer with a 10" in the same location but it would also need a sealed box too.

By placing the woofer thru the ski-pass I could alway turn it off and not lose my oem surround sound.

Haven't been in the sound game for awhile so I'm kinda lost with all the new stuff.

I was thinking of the Alpine sub & woofer with the LC2i. The next problem is getting the box made.

if you can find a high performance free air, you can just replace the OEM sub. keeps it neat and tidy. but i understand the want for a sealed box.

i've got a 10W3V3 in my other sedan and it's great. it's getting 650 from a PG amp and it loves every minute of it.

I don't know about the sub yet but I have my fingers crossed on picking up an Audison SR 1 (rated at 460w rms at 2ohms) tomorrow.

I'll see what subs they have at the shop.

Did you install the LC2i yet?

unfortunately no. i've had some other things up front that have kept me from it. as well as figuring out how to run the gain knob for it and also the power wiring for the box. once i do, you'll get pics in this thread.

This is what I ordered:

Audison SR1
Rockford Fosgate P3D4-10"
Sealed 3/4" mdf box (has to be made)
Audio Control LC2i
Audio Control bass knob

I'm going to replace the oem Bose woofer, I hope to have everything in the car by the end of next week.

Well I took the easy way, this is what I got:

Audison mono amp SR1DK (940w rms @ 2ohms or 1,200w rms at 1ohm).

2 Rockford Fosgate 12" woofers P3's

I Bassworx dual 12" ported box with custom front high gloss black panel

Audio Control LC2i with remote bass knob

140w circuit breaker

I set the amp at 2ohms 940w with the gain set at 10am (less than half)
The Audio Control LC2i is set at less than half on all 3 knobs
The radio bass is set at 2 bars before half

I installed the amp under the deck with the LC2i so they'er out of the way.

Just to give you an idea of how much power I have, I feel like this Audison amp set at 1ohm (1200w) and gains get at a little over half should be able to pump 4 15" P3 woofers. This little amp is just crazy strong for it's size.

I hope to have pics when it stops raining.

PS the LC2i doesn't need a remote turn on.

The LC2i turns on all by itself. Just
hook up the speaker level inputsand as soon as you turn on the
factory audio system the LC2i
will power up as well. After
the LC2i turns itself on, it
provides a 12 volt trigger
output to turn on your
amplifier.

I'm very happy how everything came out and it sounds really good.

I just have to find how to keep the box in-place. Every time I hit the gas the box moves. I need to some how tie it down without seeing anything.

some small 90 degree brackets screwed into your trunk floor should keep it in place and still removable (don't screw the box to the brackets).

I purchased an MTX reQ, got the amp main power run, know that the remote turn on i the brown wire on the Sub Amp. I just need to know what wires i tap into for constant & acc/switch power for the reQ? can anyone help?

Josh,

I use the brown wire as the remote wire for my system. I ran 2AWG from my battery to a distro box for power and established a ground (and ground distro block) for my grounds. I would not recommend powering any aftermarket amps/processors by tapping into the factory power/ground wires.

Hope this helps

SYSTEM UPDATE:

I finished the install:
HiFonics BRZ2400.1D (2400 watts @ 1 Ohm)
Pioneer GM-D9500F (only running 2 of the 4 channels; 2X75 watts @ 4 Ohms)
2 X RE Audio SXX 12" DVCs in a ported enclouser tuned to 33Hz
2 X Polk Audio db6501 (6.5" and 1" tweeters)
Audio Control LCQ-1

I have yet to have it offically measured at an SPL contest but, I should be pretty close to the 135-140db range. I still have full function of rest of the Bose 5.1 surround system and factory controls. It gets loud, but I have a remote gain knob mounted in the ash tray so I can turn down the bass and enjoy Dave matthews Band too (or whatever).

It does, thanks. I'm running the re-Q off the power i ran from the battery and it seems to work fine with just constant, ground and remote switch from factory brown wire. I'm sure i'll be ok with this set up.
Do you know the color wires for the rear speakers so I can splice intp them for the bass signal since using the sub wires is kinda pointless?
Thanks,

Josh

PS. I guess I need to run heaver gauge power as my 1 sub amp, Punch 320, is causing the interior lights to dim when the bass hits.

Not pointless when using the Audio Control LC2i. It makes for a quick and easy install.

You don't even a remote wire:

The LC2i turns on all by itself. Just
hook up the speaker level inputs and as soon as you turn on the
factory audio system the LC2i
will power up as well. After
the LC2i turns itself on, it
provides a 12 volt trigger
output to turn on your
amplifier.

and you still use the oem sub wires which allows you to keep the Bose movie signal out.

The Audio Control LC2i does a great job with an easy install without spending big bucks.

Also your interior lights will always dim when hitting hard bass. You could add 0 ga wire and it still won't stop the dimming.
