Potential FX35 Owner with some questions (Massachusetts.)

Hi,

I'm pretty excited about getting back into a the Nissan/Infiniti world, I've previously owned a Sentra SE 2.0.

I am looking at an 07 FX35 AWD. Here are my questions:

I received an Autocheck report but now CarFax on the car. Anyone familiar with the differences? Should I get a CarFax as well?

Also, as the title says, I do live in MA, I currently have an Audi A6 Quattro, and I do pretty well in the snow. How does the FX do in the snow with the 20" wheels? Should I plan for a separate set of rims with snow tires?

Thanks in advance.

Find out as much info as you can its imperative to a long lasting low matinence car, im from Florida so I know nothing about snow ill let somebody else inform you on that. Good Luck!

I ran my 22's on my 04 AWD all winter in up to 2' of snow and they did great but I plan on running some dedicated snow tires on my oe 18's next winter for two reasons.
1) It was way too much work keeping my rim's clean!
2) Dedicated snow tires will offer even better traction and safety.

Thanks for the quick replies... The car has about 35K miles. Any major service I should know about coming up?

Oil change,Carbon activated cabin filter,Inspect all other fluids and service as necessary.

Also, I'm not buying from a Dealer, but an auto group who says they've Certified it, and they only buy 1 owner off lease cars from Auctions. Not that good of a mechanic myself, and don't know anyone in the area. Any suggestions on how I should have it checked out?
or what to look for?

so its not infiniti certified correct?

when i bought my FX from a 3rd party i did a carfax then took it into the nearest infiniti dealer and had them do a 160 point inspection b4 buying the car. the dealer advisor said its their most thorough inspection, the same they do on their trade-ins, cost $135 but at least i know there wouldn't be any surprises 500 miles down the road after my purchase.

i have the stock 20s and a set of 18s for the winter. you do not need them but it is a world of a difference between the 20ss in the snow with regular tires and 18s in the snow with snow tires...

Thanks for all the info. Another question that I forget to check out, I will search the forums too, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Are the side rear view mirrors auto dimming? or only the interior rear view is?

Only the interior rearview mirror.

Thanks. I'm also very interested in the Brick interior, is anyone experiencing any issues with the brick leather? Does it fade quickly? wrinkle more or anything like that. I saw one today and it seems that the wrinkles/scales of the leather seem to show up more with that color? Any feedback from folks with the Brick leather on that?

Also, what color should the cargo tray be with the brick interior?

Guys, Thanks again for all your help. About to pull the trigger, but I just found out that it hasn't been serviced at an Infiniti dealer.

The only thing it was brought into the dealer for was to replace a muffler? Should I be worried, an 07 with 34K getting a muffler replaced? Is this a problem with this model?

Muffler shouldn't be replaced unless it was damaged. I say get a mechanic and check out the rear end. A major rear end collision would damage the muffler as well as the tips. If it was a warranty job though, it might be a rare failure which I wouldn't concern myself much.. If it was an uncovered replacement though, you should really get the chasis checked to see if there are any bends or such.

Put a deposit down today....

All,

Thanks for the great advice and help so far, I put a deposit on a 07 FX35 today and I am going to have it looked at by an infiniti dealer before I take ownership! Very excited.

These are some issues I am still faced with.

It will definitely need tires very soon, it has the sports package so they're 20's. Also the brakes seemed warped when I braked hard in it, felt some vibrations. They're going to look at it for me.

Also, any ideas what a new key costs. They claim they only have one key, I will make a huge stink if that's the case and hopefully they throw it in. What do you guys think?

Also, it wasn't detailed yet, but I was surprised to find how unwaxed the paint felt. I thought on a car like this the gloss would be more. FYI is the Copper color.

Also, they're 2 antennas on the top? is that normal? the black one in front of sunroof and then a body colored one in the middle towards the back? I'm assuming one for nav, one for sirius?

Thanks!

I had an '05 FX35, it was liquid copper with brick interior which I traded in for an 09 FX35. The brick leather held up well but did have some wrinkles at trade-in with 43000 miles. Also my muffler needed replacement at this time. The cargo area of the car was black. The brick leather seemed to be less flexible and soft than other colors. One other area I would check is front hub bearings, mine were shot and making noise when I traded the car in. A dealer in North Carolina refused to replace them under warrenty saying they went because of the harsh winters in PA., where I live , and wanted to charge me $2000.00 for the muffler and bearing job. The paint on the car held-up well. I hope this helps you out. GOOD LUCK

Zune Interface

So, first impressions so far. WOW! The FX is AWESOME. I wish it was mine (my wife's), oh well, I do most of the driving outside of the work commute anyhow.

So, in my car A4, I actually have a tape player which I use a cassette adapter to hook up my Zune. Any ideas on how to hook up my Zune in the FX? I'd prefer not to go the route of a FM Modulator. I've been researching about a line input, but haven't been able to find where etc.

Also, I have the rear DVD. How do you get sound to come through the speakers in the car for that? Can you? If you can, that has a line input on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For those that haven't heard of it, the Zune is Microsoft's IPOD. (Got a really good deal on it, that's why I have it vs. the iPOD.)

TIA
