Post H&R springs experience

Guys, after I installed those, I experienced little to nothing of the promised improvement in ride quality (H&R quotes 30%), in fact, I feel now the stock springs absorb shocks in a better way, any similar experience?

Installation was done professionally.

Doesn't make sense, At a minimum ride should be marginally better than OE, how is the performance factor? Also, how many miles on your ride? If high mileage on suspension (over 60k, perhaps on rough roads) I would also suspect the shocks

Its not going to ride like a lexus floating on clouds but the handling is definitely improved

What year is your ride? 03 and 04 suspensions were really hard. H&R springs made a very noticeable improvement in these years. Also, let the springs settle in, you will see a smoother ride. Not Lexus or Caddy smooth, but definitely smoother than stock.

I have 78k miles, shocks are brand new KYB.

Mine is 2004 FX45, it has been now over two months since I installed those with an average of 50 miles driven distance per day. It is true the suspension is very hard and as you said I expected a noticeable improvement, but unfortunately not. I feel while driving that the suspension is taking greater shocks on H&R passing on the same bumps than the stock springs.

Not sure what to tell you. Everyone on this forum feel major improvement in ride quality and performance in cornering over stock springs. What it is you really looking for from these springs? If you're looking for a "floating" ride quality from them, you will never going to find that type of ride quality from these springs that since these are "Sport" spring. I love how H&R rides on my 03 FX35 and 03 FX45.

I think maybe people just have different interpretations of ride quality. The stock springs are softer so they will absorb more shock, that is simple physics. The stock springs also have more travel so they will ride better, again physics. But because the stock springs are relatively soft, the ride can be a bit floaty/bouncy and the handling isn't as good. With H&R's, the spring rate is higher so you will feel more of the road. There is also less travel so if you have lots of big bumps or potholes, you are much more likely to bottom out the shocks. Having said that, the ride is much more controlled which to many people is preferred. There is no way to lower a car and not increase the spring rate. And increasing the spring rate will result in less small bump compliance which some people don't mind and others don't like.

I've gone from OEM to H&R's to coilovers. With coilovers, the ride would be considered rough to most people because my car is very low and the shock damping is set high. But to me, that is what I prefer. That's the problem with ride quality reports, it's all in personal preference. What some consider an improvement in ride will feel just the opposite to others. My brother in law owns a Lexus GS, before he bought it, he test drove an Infiniti M and a 5 series BMW. He thought the ride in the Lexus was better than the others and I have the exact opposite opinion. We're both right.

There is nothing wrong with the H&R springs you got nor the shocks. If you don't like the ride quality, the only option is to take them off. It won't magically get better.

Well said shadow! :good:

My guess for most of us on this forum reporting the love on the improvement in ride quality with H&R and/or Coilovers must be after performance, handling, not so bouncy/floaty quality when comparing to stock springs. Ataher, must be misunderstood what most of us is after with H&R springs.

I think you guys are absolutely right, my understanding of the ride quality was comfort and softness and that is what I was expecting to experience even a little.

you gotn r on the 45???

My exp with the hnr was beyond superb......
My overall ride quality and handling improved by 209%

I have 05 45 with app 60k miles now
My
Stocks were horrible though maybe thats why i noticed such a big difference
And i also have strut bar which helps

When i put H&R springs on my A4 without matched shocks, the ride was crap.

After getting the bilsteins in there, the ride was fantastic.

Get shocks.
