Possible redrilling issue

anyone familiar with wheel fitment and/or install, i need your feedback. also, this might be something to consider in case anyone is thinking of redrilling wheels.

i got my wheels redrilled from 120 to 114.3. days ago, i went ahead and went to a tire shop and according to them, the redrilling was off and that the bolts do not center once the wheels are mounted. in short it will not mount properly. however, the shop that redrilled did mounted and test fitted all wheels and said they all fit. i end up going back to the tire shop to get it done. they tried and indicated the same fitment issue.

my question, do the wheel bolts need to be dead centered on each slug/insert on the wheel for proper fitment? or will the lug nuts set the wheels properly once tightened and torqued and the tire shop did not understand it due to the redrilled "off" holes? i know ill find out monday, but just want to learn before i head back to the shop (who offered to mount all of them for free).

thanks in advanced.

well you hub centric and lug centric you want to be one or the other to keep the vibrations away. thats why a 115 bolt pattern is close to 114.3 but it will give you problems which is probably what you had.

Theoretically, they should be centered perfectly. To misalign the studs is to slightly bend them upon tightening, which is bad in a technical sense. In reality people run wheels with slightly different hole patterns all the time sans issue. I wouldn't do it personally, but I may be a bit paranoid.

... the tire shop did not understand it due to the redrilled "off" holes? ...

You might consider a new tire shop. It's (wheel attachment) not that complicated, nor is it really something you want to have misunderstood.

Yes the lugs should fit in the center of the redrilled holes and also you should be using a hub ring to center your new wheels if they are not the same as Infiniti.
The centerbore diameter of the new wheel should be 66.1 mm, if it is not use a hub centering ring.

thanks for all the info. im learning a lot from this. ill see what the original shop (where redrilling was made) will do and ask about the hub ring as well. they offered to mount the whole set for me. just hoping to get it resolved soon.

the shop that redrilled did the install like any other install. they did show me that i need hub rings to fit the new wheels properly and that was the only thing they charge me. they are not sure at all what the tire shop was concerned about. before i left, the person who mounted the tires and i did the test drive on streets and freeway and the new setup felt like the previous one and without any vibrations. ill probably post some pics here and/or my klasse thread. or here is one:

thanks again for all the info.
