Ported Trunk (?)

Thanks for the pics and it looks like you did a great job.

I would tell you to do both driver & passenger side. The more air you get in to the cabin the better it will sound.

How much metal did you have to cut? Can you tell me the size of the hole on the driver's side? Looks big from the pics.

I'm planning to add my port without removing the rear deck, everything will be done from the trunk. Cutting the metal while laying down looking up doesn't sound fun.

I might be ordering the 4" port soon.

I most likely will do the other side soon, seeing as how it looks pretty decent and will allow more are into the car. On the passenger side, with my port tube being 5" diameter, I had to cut about an inch or so from an area closer to the back seat. If you are using a smaller port, you may be able to avoid this cutting all together. The 2 holes were already there when I pulled the the rear deck off. The size of the hole on the passenger side, it may be about 7" left to right and 5" or so in the other direction.

As far as not removing the rear deck, it should work but to cut that hole, you have to have something like a hole saw. On top of that, the rear deck is made out of 1/8" or better plastic which I found to be a little difficult to cut. It can be done though.

So would you say the driver side is also 7x5 too? I'll be using a port with an ID of 4" (total outside would be no more than 4.25") . It would be great if I didn't need to cut any metal, even bending the metal a little would be easier for me.

I'll be cutting the rear panel by hand.

Actually the driver's side is about 7"x5" and the passenger side is maybe 6" to 6.5" in diameter. Your port will fit through there with no problem IF you aren't worried about the port being centered in the "square shaped" area. You can bend it pretty easily if you need to but only so much until you have to cut it. And when you say by hand, do mean like with a hack saw or dremel. Dremel would be the best option.

Yes I would like to center the port in the square shaped area. Cutting or even bending 1" shouldn't be that hard.

I would use a dremel to cut the deck. Waiting for warmer weather but I'm ordering the 4" port soon

If you're trying to make certain it will be centered, then I think it will be a lot easier to take the rear deck out. I can't remember how easy it was to see the square from inside the car as I already had my mind set on potting everything out. To be safe, I'd take the time to go ahead and remove the rear deck. Its kinda easy once you remove the panelling.

Don't want to spend all that time removing everything (I did that once already).

I just ordered the port, it has a 5" lip & the port tube is 4" (4x6")

yes it's a 4" ID tube with a top lip of about 6" which gives you more room when cutting the hole in the deck. The port is made like a horn in order to reduce noise.

the port is made in 3pcs (top/middle/bottom) and it's adjustable up to 6". The top has about 6 holes so it can be screwed down to the deck.

Just another mod to install when it gets warmer.

This a close up:
