PorkFX45

1st year and [mostly] stock specimen of the most perfect street car designed and built for everyday common use. The very first, and best, crossover vehicle.
About time you finally got a couple of garages going. This V8 FX is better than new and a rare color.

You are right, Wayne. It was about time. I've been on :iS2: since 2010 and I'm not going anywhere. Still the best car forum out there.

After a catastrophic casualty, the mighty and sacred FX45 is in for rebuild.
I'll tie in the Blown Engine link here: FX45 - Blown Engine

Over the last few months of much research, the donor car was selected. Not just a 2003 45, but a Laser Red donor car.
Project is to include motor, transmission, front differential, front drive shaft, and transfer case. Rebuilding everything. Final result will be a mixture of my original parts and donor.

Wow Porkie, sorry to hear, but it sounds like you have her all lined up for a new heart. Good luck on the rebuild and keep us updated.

I'm watching this thread. My 2003 is at 220K miles and it using 1.25 every 600 miles or so.

I was consuming about 1 quart every 800 miles.
The common diagnosis was attributed to a worn engine with aged and tired seals allowing oil to blow by and burn up. Also, my cats were bad for a while, so whatever material burning up in there makes it way up the manifolds and does bad things to oil consumption.
Here's the thing... You can get these engines professionally rebuilt without a problem. But, if you have a problem and end up needing a replacement crank, block, or whatever else major component, then your solutions drastically minimize. You can find engines. But good luck finding some engine parts. (This only goes for the V8's. V6's do not seem to have any problems sourcing whatever parts needed.)

Pork, are you saying have the engine professionally rebuilt before major problems hit?

Yes. It is better to rebuild a VK engine before something goes wrong.
There are engines out there you can buy. But, engine parts are more difficult to find. If something goes wrong and then you want to rebuild... and if you need to replace a key damaged component... you are more likely SOL.
On the other hand, if you're rebuilding a VQ and discover you need a block, it's not such an big deal. VQ parts are more easily available.

It's alive and well! I've really missed this car.
Just barely got her back and haven't washed it or cleaned up the many next items on the list.

Wow! Looks awesome Porkie. She looks even better now than when Karen and I met up with you a few years ago. How's she performing with the new engine.

Looks great! especially in front of the 2018 WS Champs!

Thanks all!
It's been 7 days and 700 miles of break in on the fresh drive train. I already did my first oil change and everything is looking real good. Mostly freeway driving and I'm getting 18.5 mpg. It runs smooth as silk and purrs like a kitten. Errrr.... like a cheetah!
