Plenum install

Hey guys. I have used the search and cannot find the answer here. I received my plenum spacer in the mail today. I am reading the instructions and have some questions. It states to drain the coolant. Is this a precaution or is this necessary? Also, it states to buy silicone sealant. Is there a better type than another? Thanks!

I got the Blox plenum spacer. Yes, sorry, I mean spacer, not the plenum itself. I didn't think I would need the silicone either so i would be happy to not have to use it. But I figured I would ask.

I read that thread on g35driver and it looks like one person had this negative comment, "I bought and installed it a few months ago and it worked terrible for me... it didn't happen to me but i heard it was melting because of the material its made out of." So he writes that it worked terrible for him, but then writes that it didn't happen to him. ??? The other negative comments seem to be just speculation unless I'm missing something. I also saw another thread on this forum about the Blox and no one had any negative experiences with it.

I'm satisfied with the purchase, I just need some installation assistance. But I think I'll just grab a buddy to help me who is more mechanical that me. I still can't figure out why I would need to drain the coolant though...

there is a coolant line that run through the throttle body. you dont need to disconnect it, just lift the plenum and slip in the spacer. sorry, I didnt mean to tell you to return it. from what I heard, all are the same at the end of the day.

*remember not to over tighten/torque the long bolts that go through the plenum. they seem to snap easily.

follow this DIY :tup:

The motordyne spacer comes with a on/off valve. It's to let the flow of coolant to run to the throttle body or close the valve to not let coolant flow to the throttle body.

Summer = Closed
Winter = Open

I don't know if the Blox comes with one but if it does, The above describes it all.

That's awesome. Thanks for your help. I'll knock it out this weekend. I will have to work on my searches so I can find these. Haha.

The Blox does not come with a coolant on/off switch. I'll take some pictures as I do it.

Plenum spacer is now installed. I followed the DYI on here. It stated to place a small amount of silicone on the six spacers that sit inside the manifold. Now I am wonderring if it will be a problem should I ever have to separate the manifold. What services would require me to remove it and is this a problem? I guess those of you that have changed one spacer for another would have encountered this. Thoughts? Thanks!

don't worry, silicone comes off easy & will not have a bad impact on ever re-doing it or servicing it in the future, it's not like epoxy or anything...

Thanks. I was really worried I was going to drop one of those spacers down the holes of the manifold.

My spacer is 5/8" and now I can't fit my engine cover on which kinda blows. The front two studs don't reach up high enough. I'm going to try and figure something out on that one...

It sounds a lot throatier at high rpms though. I hope I get some mpg improvement too.

Really no need for that cover unless you want it just for looks. The front studs that mount the cover are actually straight threaded bolts with no head, so you can actually raise them up and get them higher by unscrewing them a few turns.

An easy way to move them is to place two nuts on the threads at the top and tighten the nuts against each other. Then grab the bottom nut ONLY with the wrench and loosen the stud. When you have raised the bolt, use one of the nuts to "lock" the bolt against the plenum, then just use it to mount your cover same as originally. You don't need that second nut after you raise the stud.

I removed the front studs and used two of the original plenum bolts and they worked fine. I might just leave it off if I can something to cover up the front of the motor like a half cover. I just don't like all wires hanging there exposed. I don't think it looks good.

Me neither - which is why I got the Rare JDM harness cover. Also painted the plenum.
