Hi everyone, a noob here seeking for help.. I have a 09 FX35 with 46k miles. I was sitting at a light today
and all of sudden it started idling really rough then CES light blinking. It was almost funny because my warranty
expired A week ago!

A long story short, took the car to a dealer where they told me it's P0024 Exhaust Timing Control Solenoid.
When the SA said $1400 and it's not covered I was so pissed didn't even bother to ask them if that's for
entire cover and sensor or just sensor. I drove it home babied it all the way(5miles).
Did anyone have similar problem or code? Can I just change the sensor and will it fix it?
Please help!

anyone?

Here ya go. Hope this helps. If the SES lights comes on the very first time and not affect driveability, I would take note of the code, erase the code. I would start troubleshoot when the code comes back:

Wow thank you so much! I'll change the EVT sensor myself and take it from there.
I can't believe these guys want $1400 for this..

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i am having this same issue (P0014 & P0024).

Did changing the EVT sensor fix this for you?

I doubt you will get an answer back from OP. His last login was 10/30/2014. May have to bite the bullet and replace the sensor to see if it fixes it. Hope you report back of your result.

I was thinking the same thing, la_fx35. I have seen a lot of people with this same issue, but disappear before reporting back with what solved it.

I already flushed the system and the light came back on after driving for about 2 miles. I think the sensors will be next and then either the solenoids or the full VTC's.

Trying to do this as inexpensively as possible.

If anyone has any input, please let me know!!

la_fx35 - do you have a part number for the EVT position control sensor? i am looking for the sensor, but cannot find it anywhere.

How many miles on the motor.

Most timing chain motors I've experienced with 150k or more that throw these codes are more likely chain stretching the actual sensors. Haven't see VQ motors yet but I've wrenched on a fair amount of VW and caddy motors to see this happen.

Obviously cheapest and first repair to try the sensors but keep in back of ur mind u might need a chain and tensioner/guides.

TurTLeG, I just hit 100K miles on the motor. I did some research and it looks like there is a service bulletin for Nissan/Infiniti when codes P0014 & P0024 come up. The bulletin notes there is a known problem and the fix is supposed to be the EVT Control Magnet Retarder.

Now i just need to find the part number for this part. Seems to be a tough task to find that part number so I can order it.

OK, quick update on the status....

Swapped out the magnet retarder covers on both sides and lights are now off. I could not find the parts anywhere so I had to have the work done at a shop that received the full covers with magnet retarders on them directly from infiniti.

If anyone determines what the part number is for this and where it can be purchased, please let all of us know as I have a feeling this is going to be a common problem and the labor charge is definitely not worth it.

Theyre timing control solenoids & theres one on each side. Part numbers are
#23796ze01c $231.32 left bank. Alternate number #23796ze00c
#23796jk22b $220.00 right bank. Alternate number #23796jk20b

im pretty sure you can get them cheaper at www.infinitipartsusa.com

Is this part also for 2009? appears to show up for 2002 - 2008

The first numbers came straight from the dealers parts dept. the second ones are from the alldata repair software database.
this actually fits a bunch of nissans 3.5 liter engines.
