I don't know if this is a repost, but i came over this new product from Plastidip. I know many people have used Plastidip, and I am one who loves the ability to peel off if need, but always wished it could be glossy. This may be the answer. I am not affiliated with any of this, just passing along the find. i'll post up when I redo my grille and probably do my wheels now.

and I found this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8MDJGeIIk0

Is there any good DIY to plastidip wheels? I wouldn't mind trying it to see how I would like dark wheels on my car and like you would love to just peel it off if it looked like #$%%.

use some soap and water to really clean your rims up. Tape off your tires or stick cards in between your wheel and rim. Spray rims with plastidip 6-8 inchs away but dont over spray. Light coats. repeat multiple times. the more steps you put on the more durable they last. you tube has tons of vids on how to use plastidip your rims.

Wow, thanks for sharing. There is another related video he has too where he uses clear over the chrome to turn it into a brushed finish. I've been wanting to do this to my door handles and lower door trim to so it matches the rails.

Be cool to do the door handles too

How durable is this stuff? Nothing worse than peeling

Agreed on the peeling aspect. If it can hold up to abuse I'd uncover my lower front chrome bar and try coating it as well.

If you use regular clear coat on top of plastidip, it does make it more difficult to remove. But being the Glossifier is made by Plastidip, I would assume it has the same durability and peeling properties

I've had a Plastidip grille for over a year now with no problem. Way more durable than the constant paint chips of regular paint

Nice... thanks for sharing.

Do you know where else we can order this other than dipyourcar.com? The shipping for one can is $10, making it total $17/can if you only order one, or $26.20 for two. :(

Edit:

List of places to buy: http://www.plastidip.com/diy_where_to_buy.php, search "enhancer" to see which stores carry the glossifier

I originally checked amazon, but the shipping is almost the cost of a can. From then on, I just went to Home Depot.

So Paul, are you getting some to try out then? What parts would you do?

One thing I don't quite understand about the video I posted, the guy masked off just a tad around his grille. He didn't even line up the blue tape up to the edge of the grille. I have never used Plastidip before so maybe you are able to wipe off the overspray or even just rub off the Plastidip off the areas with overspray?

I love the clear coat/brushed aluminum idea. I have always wanted my rear trim to match the roof rails. I think the front emblem and lower side trim would be cool in brushed as well. Nice find!

He did this because Plastidip has the ability to peel off. If he put it right to the edge, he would take it off on areas he would want it to stay. As long as you put many layers so its on thick, Plastidip will easily peel off. And overspray comes off easily as well.

i have had no issues with plasti dip. i did my wheels last summer and they still holding up pretty well. BTW, im in the northeast, that means snow, salt, cold, moisture.... im actually impressed with this product, in fact ill be doing my roof on black and my interior trim in red pretty soon.
