plasti dipped FX

I searched and I haven't found anyone that has dipped their car. I have dipped mine a few times so I thought I would share it with you guys. Most people when they hear a dipped car they think that it was done with a raddle can and that it would look like that. So if any one was wondering what it would look like, here it is.

Looks good. You just have to be really careful how you clean your car now. Just don't run it through an automatic car wash, or park it under a tree. Bird droppings will stain the plastidip, and a power wash may rip it right off.

Wow, it looks good. It looks like matte blue wrap from the pictures. How much does it cost ya.

Nice job, def makes an illusion of a wrap rather than paint. Did you paint inside the door jams and engine bay too? Looks very clean.

Looks great, a lot better then how my car came out a few years ago.
Mine was good from far but far from good. I made the mistake of doing it outside. The wind really gave me bad texture. i later learned that the white needed a black or grey base coat because its too thin even with a lot of coats.
While i had it dipped i drove through the car wash and pressure washed my car with no problems. when i hand washed my car i used soapy water and a shammy to wash it. To dry i usually use a blower or just let it air dry.

I saw yours iMotionFX45 and that's what made me paint the skirt as well. a lot of people would think that I have to be vary carful with it but actually it is vary strong when it is applied in this form. I have gotten my door dinged and event bumped into the end of the garage( don't ask) and all was well with it. I can even take it through a car wash with no prob. I usually wash it with a foam cannon and then power spray it off with no prob.

It doesn't stain because I use a spray on wax so it keeps it looking clean for a few weeks. This is not my first dip. I have had it charcoal befor for a few months and have done 3 of my friends cars as well. I sprayed it in the garage so that we don't get crap flying around and sticking to the dip. The supplyer I get my dip from does a good job at mixing for the time of the year so application is always smooth and easy to work with.

over all I love it. It stays clean for weeks and I get people on the dayly that come up and ask me where I got it wrapped. To change color depends on what you go with. the blue is actually a matt clear dip with blue metallic flake in it. Next will be done with pearl. estimated cost is a little over $200

that looks really good man. I like it. i usually don't like the dipped cars, it just looks unfinished to me, but the blue looks good. I think I am gonna do only the black pieces in black since mine have a bunch of deep scratches so I wanna make it look perfect

Dipping cars is nice to get a different look if you get bored easily. It's best to spray it with a gun and do tons of coats for the best finish. However, even with doing that sometimes it doesn't hold up well.

Dipping cars is huge up here in Buffalo - I've been playing with it for my z31 300zx project. It's cool to get some coverage and change up the look but I still consider it a temporary thing...

p.s. try and not get pulled over with your car dipped if you haven't changed the regi... a few guys up here have gotten in trouble for the car color not matching, even when they showed the cops how it peels off etc.

I have been debating on dipping my FX for a while now. This is awesome to see what it would look like. Both colors look really good.

A few questions for you;

How do you get a hold of the gallons here in CA? Last time i checked you could only bring in small cans of un-thinned dip. Do you just thin it your self?
How many coats did you do?
What sprayer do you use?
Do you know of any places up in the bay area that do this service?

giantsoobs you can ship it to somewhere close out of the state and go pick it up or try to ask around and search to find a source. I was lucky to find someone down here in SD that can get ahold of it. I know pep boys is now selling black and whit in pre thinned gallons. When it comes to coats I try to do as many as I can, usually 5 to7. I am using a Wagner control spray gun. it is a unit that has a separate turbine unit with a hose, that's the easiest.

I don't know where people get this idea that dip is so fragile, or that it is going to rip off in the pressure washer or car wash. Its really strong once applied.

Obviously if you start firing up a 12HP pressure washer and spraying 5000psi+ on the thing you are going to start creating problems for yourself, but realistically if you are washing your car like even with paint you are going to start creating problems for yourself.

I am obviously biased towards wrapping, simply because that was the correct choice for me, but if done right dipping can looks almost as good. (almost).

That just happened to me with the BMW. That was the official reason for pulling me over, but he was just trolling. Once he pulled me over, he started accusing me of everything

"is the front windshield tinted" no
"I know you're illegally lowered" he never measured and if he did, he would see it's not.
"Your car sounds like the exhaust is too loud" it's not

Couple of other things too. Eventually he wrote me a ticket for tinted tail lights even though they still light up red. It's one of those tickets where the law is very vague in GA so depending on the judge, you may or may not get off. It's also a ticket that's cheap enough they know you're not going to court over. I consider it a tax - that sort of stuff has been happening much more since the property values in the suburbs crashed and they're desperate for money.

I've had custom colored cars for years and years, never changed the registration, got pulled over for various traffic violations and never once was the color ever a concern. But lately, lots of people have been getting pulled over for stuff like this, revenue generation.
