Plasti Dip Grill Results!

Thanks guys, smijus my tip is the closer your spray can is.. The smoother the texture becomes. Obviously you don't want like 2inches away but more like 5-6 inches vs the 10-12 inches on the instructions. When I first did my grill I did about 8- 10 inches and the result more of a textured finish, almost like poorly done powder coat.

Thanks for the tip. I actually have a few cans of Plasti Dip at home, probably need to do something with it... :)

Can you take some closer pictures of the clear plastidip over the chrome? This maybe a better alternative to the vinyl wrapping which is a pain on those smaller parts. Thanks

How thin were your coats?
how far away did you spray?
how long did you let dry in between?

I only asking because the last few times I tried using it it came out textured

Also, what do the door handles "feel" like? do they still feel metallic/chrome or do they feel like a soft rubber now? (I'm really particular)

Also did you take directions from Fonzie from dipyourcarcom from youtube? He says very thing light coats about 6 inches away. First going for 50% transparency and so forth giving about a 10 minute dry between each coat and a 30 minute wait after last coat?

Hey,

I have done the same and while I cannot speak to the finish on Wind Dances handles, I can tell you that mine certainly have a rubbery feel to them. It is kind of interesting. As for texturing, I did not find I got much. Mine came out very smooth visually. I have gotten many compliments on them.

I will say, I tried wrapping before using the Dip, and like you mentioned, found the wrap very tedious. The Dip worked much, much better and gave a nice, durable finish.

Wow compliments on the door handles. I might have to try this. It looks like it will match well with the sport roof racks. When you plasti dipped the grill black, did it have a bit of a satin black look or just matte? I want to do my grill to match the satin headlights.

Byronvi- The texture is definitely different from the smooth plastic chrome original. I used about half a can for the front grill, 4 handles and the two rear bars.

The process I used was similar to dipyourcar, spray 6 inches away and 25-30 mins per layer drinking a beer in between each coating lol

Yeah for sure, the texture is certainly different than the smooth chrome. On mine it came out looking like Matte Aluminium, and is only rough if you touch it. Visually, it looks smooth and Matte.

On mine I sprayed 3 heavy coats with the handles removed from the vehicle, waiting about 7 minutes between coats. This gave a nice rough texture to touch, with a smooth Matte visual effect. After a rain storm it smoothed out to touch just a bit. I am very happy with it. I used about one can to do the grille, chrome trims and handles.

For everyone interested in doing this, it is pretty durable in my experience. Has lasted through many random prairie storms just fine. Has been close to 6 months now I think, and shows no signs of peeling anywhere, even the front grille.

WiND DANCE, how has yours stood up thus far?

I wonder how flat black would look on all the chrome pieces on the truck. like the handles the bottom of doors and rear pieces... hmmm (when am I off) lol
