Performance gain if these are removed from intake?

I was cleaning my throttle bodies and something caught my attention...

I'm going to take a guess and I believe these are just to quiet down the intake...now if I was to remove them..would they cause any issues for the engine and would I gain some intake noise? Maybe some kind of gains? (not expected).

They are the OEM moisture/debris traps, they can be eliminated but I would suggest getting some new tubing to replace as a smooth transition. Removing the traps and keeping your OEM setup will not do much from a performance standpoint, might just create undesired turbulance IMO. I eliminated these when creating the Manta Ray intake for the first gens, but added a drain hole so water could still escape.

Phantom, not about your question but concerning your strut tower brace brackets. It does not look like you have a full nut on the strut bolts or am I not seeing it correctly.

Interesting.. I know the stock 1st Gen intake tube had that same thing and the z tube was the upgrade without it. Looking at upgraded intake kits, all these are removed. Should be fine I think.

Thanks for your concern :) That's what i love about iS. The angle I took the photo, it looks like its not, but the stud sticks out above the nut, just not the usual length you would see without the bracket or even with it.

Also, the holes of the bracket are bigger than the studs...I found something in the plumbing section at home depot, like these small brass flanges that fill in the void between the stud and bolt, now the bracket is tight as hell...I swear I can't feel any movement in the front end now..

if you want real gains and sound take the filters out and go for a spin.

Lol, I'm pretty convinced the stock intake is the best we can get..
