Paul Walker (RIP 11/30/13)

^funny you mention not being an accident investigator, this and something else got me interested in that, so I began researching it. Ended up coming across a company that does it for all kinds of accidents, one being bicycles. I was always said I wanted to do something with engineering and bicycles but never thought about it from that angle.

It seems pretty fun to take all the facts and make an educated guess on what transpired, but it's frustrating not actually knowing. I guess in training they have you evaluate cases where they know what happened and then you can see how your investigative outcome compared to the real one.

Interesting new idea here, that the car lost control from hitting those little bumps that outline lanes. http://www.tmz.com/2013/12/11/paul-walker-wreck-death-road-bumps-botts-dots-hydroplane/

I immediately thought of one time only about 5 miles from where the crashed happened when I was on I-5 and noticed that the bumps were laid down 3 in a row. It was raining, and I could feel them moving the rear around when I drove over them since the tire was completely off the road surface. Got on google maps, and what do I see just behind where Pork took his photo of the skid marks?

Stu, did you miss where I predicted the bumps causing the issue even before anyone else including TMZ came to that hypothesis?

Probably, I don't think I read this thread much when it was posted.

Definitely seems like he was coming around that long sweeping right turn and lost it as the road straightened out. Kicked the rear out to the left, and straight into the curb.

I hope one of these days someone comes out with a reproduction simulation of what they believe happened. It would be awesome to see the video.

Since, I gave my hypothesis earlier with my own research, as to what might have caused this accident and questioned the condition of the hood, I must thank Pork and StuLax, for providing their insights to the crash, and helping answering some of the questions I had. Pork has been instrumental with providing actual photos for us from this scene, and giving his perspective backed by evidence he gathered. However, it was unfortunate that another member started calling me names when I was having a friendly debate regarding the crash scene. Kudos to IS moderators for stepping right in and taking over!

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that really, just making light of the situation... Figured I could get a small chuckle out of someone...

I honestly don't even like to think about what happened including why the accident occured. It was a tragedy and I really didn't think about it much beyond that.

Always good to learn to prevent future accidents. Certainly on a much bigger level, but imagine if the government didn't look at how the hijackers on 9/11 took over the planes to find a way to prevent something similar. I think it will come down to just a driver pushing it too much on the street and something went wrong. I still hate how they stack up those little bumps though.

Yeah I know my local roadworks crew has worked extensively in testing different methods of using those little markers. For example they started creating little pockets in the road in which those markers would sit, however this idea quickly degraded because water and dirt would fill this pockets and make the markers useless.

They also tried those thin "L" shaped plastic makers that simply glue onto the road, but they are ripped off almost immediately by cars changing lanes and such.

Happy to help, Exotic.

I thought the recessed dots were for snow plows; so they don't lift them up. While not a lane marker, I kind of like the "wake up! indentions" on the sides of highways.

I've only seen those floppy glued on markers used as temp while roadwork is being done, as like you said they tend to break at some point. Recessed is good, but maybe not all the way down. Somewhere I was driving actually used a metallic paint for the lines, so they glowed and reflected well at night.

Those rumble strips annoy me when some locations have them integrated with the yellow line, as opposed to outside of it. I always pass 18 wheelers with my outside tires on the yellow line. They definitely wake you up though.

There is actually new technology that they use, I have seen it in conjunction with the metallic painted lines you speak of. Where instead of the rumble strips or in addition to them running over the actual lines produces this high pitched noise. Its almost like a really sharp squealing. Unfortunately it seems like the effect does not last very long, if people drive over the lines they eventually stop making the noise quite quickly. So this was another failed attempt.

Man with class. Wish they showed more of that on TV than Miley types. Reminds me of our local hero Russell Wilson of Seattle Seahawks who visits Children's Hospital with his wife every Tuesday.
