PANZER74 FX Updates

Yeah - serious pace you are rocking.

Recently a friend of mine mentioned he thought I should paint the black plastic covering the battery and brake compartments. Since I have a Laser Red FX, I was thinking about either painting mine gloss red to try to blend in to the bay or gloss black to match the theme going on in my bay. Maybe some silver lettering on the labels.

Got some thoughts/opinions on your bay (again)

If you were to try the plastic painting - maybe the same color as your wire harness - whatever that ends up being? Or maybe match to your body color and they will sort of "dissapear" when you pop the hood? Just thinking out loud. Understand if it's not something you want to tackle.

Also think replacing your current catch can hoses with something to match the rest of your hoses. At least that way you won't see the discolored oily PCV exit.

As for your tails - I think it'll look sik without a tint because it'll match body color more closely. Kind of like the red tails on a red FX.

I'm VERY interested in your BC install. As you know I have been coveting your wheels since you got them. I plan on getting those Senekas staggered, so I'm using your setup as a starting point. I'm glad we have the same suspension - much better comparison. Post up LOTS of photos. Need to see that wheel/fender fitment.

Pretty soon you will reach the end of your mod list and realize the only place to go is forced induction. ITS WORTH IT if you have the cash, but my recommendation would be to get as many miles out of your NA engine as possible - enjoy all your bolt-ons. Get a tune and be happy. The next step is quite a jump in price if you plan on going there.

Then again, you could totally build a show car engine bay and take it to competition/judged shows for fun...

Well the BC coilovers were installed yesterday. I'm happy with them so far. The only issue is and I know it was going to be one was the rubbing. I have a 35 offset running 22x10 on 305/35/22 tires. I don't rub in the front at all just the rear. R/R seams to rub the worst + there is some tire slicing going on. The only time I rub is when I come off the road into a driveway or over a BIG speed bump. Next week when I have time to do it taking her in to get the rear fenders trimmed down on the inside. Was going to roll them but I think grinding will be better. Going to make sure to paint the bare metal so it don't promote rust. A little silicone between the trim and body panel will help keep the trim in place. NOT going to remove the screw points. Only rubs a length of about 3-4 inches at the top of the fender. Here are some pics. She has a little Rake going on due to the rubbing. When she was finished yesterday there was a wheel gap of about 1 inch. now its up to 1 1/2 inch. Oya clear tails put on too.

seriously, you have one of my favorite FX's. Love the way everything blends in so well together.. ahh jealous!

Here are some more pictures from today. Gives a little better look of the coilover install and its closeness to my rear fender's. The last pic is of the little car scene that I belong to here in El Paso "Notorious" its a great group of people! Its not about who has what car or manufacture its about people/ family. This was a small meet there are more of us than just this, 30+.

Very, Very, nice. I like it all (less the stickers)....never been a sticker guy but hey, that's just me. BTW the drop is perfect.

Looking sharp! Great all around look. Best to get the fenders taken care of ASAP or you will see larger tire gashes. Take it from one who has been there, lol.

Ya im getting the fenders done today after work tired already of the rubbing, I cringe going over big dips or exiting the road to a driveway:eek.:. As for the stickers, I was on a sticker kick for a while. Now when they get frizzy or worn/ missing pieces I take it off and don't replace. Next on the list is the WeaponR universal coolant tank, Black floor mats. Cant work on her next month since I will be in Yuma playing army games 3-20th. I've been dragging ass on the plenum painting and wire wrap:sluggish:. Thats going to get pushed back to Nov I think. She is my only car so what ever I do happens on the weekend and happens all at once I cant leave her at a shop:frown:

looks great. After you shave the fenders, will you drop the rears a little more? I think you can go a little lower =)

I kind of like the stickers... was thinking of putting some on mine! I have a whole stack....

I have had the occasional sticker, but I found it was more fun to sort of collect them in my garage.

So one of the things I was thinking about was going with a more narrow tire on the same size rim as you. If the rubber were just a bit stretched, it could tuck without rubbing.

Where exactly is the rubbing happening? Got a photo?

Ill take a picture for you today. Going to stick the camera up there since I cant take off my wheel (Broke wheel key yesterday):confused.::mad.: had to order a new one! I dont have a garage :frown: but I like that idea. I think Ill copy you on this one:wink (2): The Tire just nips the corner of the fender on the top on the inside. There is rubbed trim plastic about 3-4 inches long and maybe 2-3mm wide just on the edge. Since there is that little bit of fender metal that sticks out that is what is slicing the tire and it seams to be the R/R that does it the worst. L/R rubbing no slicing.

---------- Post added at 05:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ----------

Here are some pictures of the rubbing spots. Its not that bad but there is a metal lip there behind the plastic trim thats slicing. Once I get all this rolled/ grind down I should be good. I might even drop it a little bit in the rear and see how that works. NO PLAN TO SLAM:tongue (2):

Roll that metal back up into the fender. Not only does it give you more room but then the tire rubs against smooth metal instead of the edge, if at all.

Ya, after thinking about all day I think Ill go with rolling first and trim down the plastic. You can see that its hardly rubbing at all. The wheel gap after install was less than the thickness of my finger. Had to raise it to help alleviate some of the rubbing. 2 fingers is what its about now in wheel gap. Running 12 clicks from hard in front 11 from hard in rear. 20's was way to bouncy for me. After the roll and a little lower then I'll start working on dialing it down a little softer.
