Painting Tail Light Housing?

I have my taillights sprayed with VHT but they're really dark. Thinking about removing it and taking apart taillights and painting the housing with krylon black paint.. Anyone ever hear of anyone doing this? I know its popular with headlight housing but I've never seen it on tails. This would also be legal and the LED's would be brighter than if they were painted or tinted over, and would still give the "blacked out" feel.

You can't take apart taillights like headlights. They're one piece and cutting them open will ultimately destroy them

like this but over the whole light?

i think jhon(turbocad6) painted his tail light housing but he mentioned it was not a easy task..

The rear lights (inner & outer) can't not be opened like the headlights. They're permanently sealed. You have to use a dremel rotary tool to cut around the edges behind the lens to separate them and then glue them back together with epoxy when you're all done. Just get a set of sport taillights is much easier. There is a set of outer sport tails for sale right now here on the forum, then get the inner from infinitipartsusa and you all done.

That's what I did. It's impossible to find inner tails anywhere...

i have sport tails but id rather the housing be a black or a black chrome, rather than the chrome. i saw an fx the other day with the red reflectors in the sport tails painted black, and was wondering if he took them apart to do that..
