Packing and Shipping those Heavy Rims and Tires.

Items Needed
Cardboard
Scissors or Blade
Packing Tape
Stretch Wrap

1. Grab your rim

2. Cut out a piece of cardboard a bit larger than the face of your rim (we want to protect the face and lip of the rim during shipping).

3. Tape the piece of cardboard on your rim to hold it in place.

4. Grab your stretch wrap. (I would purchase the larger size if you have it available in your area. After 2 stores this is all I could find - at home depot.)
5.jpg

5. Start off by wrapping the tread area of your tire. This will help the stretch wrap stick together when you start wrapping the face and rear of the tire.

6. Now you can wrap around the face and rear of the rim. Get crazy and wrap away.

7. Wrapped up.

8. Reinforce the wrap with your packing tape. I made a few rounds around the tread of the tire.

9. and star patterns on the face and rear of the rim/tire.

10. You are done...

All you have to do now is tape your mailing labels on the tread part of the packages and drop them off or have the shippers come and pick up your packages.

***Let your wife have her parking space back and say goodbye to the 80lb rims and tires from your garage.***

Wow, your a pro. I know where they are going. hahahahaha.

Can't wait to see them in his FX.

Thanks...

I forgot to add.. take a shower after because .........well......... just because. Uggh.

Oh, very cool. Congrats Jeff. I think I want to change the look of my FX maybe next year and get some new wheels. Maybe 23's? hahahahaha

Do you think the cardboard is enough? I would be worried... those UPS guys don't give a funk! Maybe a few layers or some other material would be better, just my .02 cents

A nice heavy corrugated cardboard works well to protect the rims. I've had a couple of sets of rims delivered to me over the years with this method with no issues.

good to know. Who is the best company to ship tires? Fedex, ups, others?

I didn't wrap my wheels and tires at all and gave them to a FedEx Kinkos. $70/each with insurance and they wrote on there that there were no scratches and no marks/bubbles on the tires.

The receiver got them in perfect condition and let me know he was very happy with the wheels/tires and shipping speed.

I'm thinking UPS is cheaper, but for being open 24/7 and stores everywhere, no brainer for me.

One thing, it works fine with these wheels as they have lips, but a wheel without a lip could get some damage or scuffs on the face from having just cardboard rub against it if it gets handled rough.
