Original OEM Radiator Life

i was wondering how many miles until you 45'ers original radiator gave up or ended up cracking due to the plastic wearing

A long time they just don't kick the bucket.... most replacement are damages done by foreign objects.

Mine lasted 104k miles. It started loosing coolant and sure enough, the coolant was leaking from the top of the OEM radiator.

Mine cracked at around 120k on FX35

okay, so im hoping to still have a good amount of life left in my original

also MTN FX, i havnt looked into it yet, but why did you need ATF for a radiator replacement?

Cause the tranny cooling runs through a small section of the radiator. Nearly all automatics are like that.

Not sure about th 45 but the 35 has a trans cooler line into the radiator. Since I had to open the line there was some fluid loss so
I let it drain overnight then added that amount back to trans when done with work - killed two birds with one stone , trans fluid serviced too :smile (2):

The trans fluid also run into a separate tank in the radiator on the FX45 for cooling just like the FX35. Topping off the ATF is needed.

Now is this a common issue with our fx's? That's crazy how many are replacing radiators.

I don't think it's that common or any more common than on any other car. Radiator end tanks are plastic, it goes through thousands of heat cycles over the years and it's under pressure and vibration. Radiators fail on all cars with age.

good to know when my time comes, im just glad we can top it off from the top where the tranny dip stick it at
