Finished painting my wheels took a few pics along the way......
The whole project cost about $65.00. 5 cans rustolium high performance wheel graphite paint, 4 cans rustolium clear wheel paint, 2 cans rustolium primer.

1) Removed all the old balancing weights and scrubbed the wheels with extra fine 0000 steel wool and dish soap.

2) Wet sanded wheels with some 400 grit sandpaper.
IMG_3374.jpg
3) Wiped down wheels with mineral spirits and masked off hub surface and lug holes.

4) Sprayed primer on wheels and center caps.

5) Dry sanded primer with 0000 steel wool (too cold out to wet sand ). ;)

6) Painted wheels and center caps.

I am really happy with how they came out I don't think anyone will be able to tell this was a spray paint job.
Like the color it was exactly what I wanted. Will add a couple of pics after I get my new set of Yokohama Geolander AT/S tires mounted and on the FX. Thinking of waiting at least a week with the rims curing in the garage in front of a heater to fully harden paint before mounting. Might have to do some touch up if tire shop scrapes them during mounting.

Excellent job at refinishing the wheels , they look great.

So I dropped off my winter set of wheels that I just painted at the tire shop to get the new tires mounted and balanced this morning. I told them that they could take their time and that I had just painted them and didn't want them to get scratched up.
So I get a call this afternoon and they tell me that three of the tires were mounted with no issues and when they were balancing the last wheel the hub nut that holds the wheel on the balancing machine came loose and every spoke of the wheel was scratched with deep gouges into my new paint job AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!
At least they said there would be no charge for the mounting and balancing.
So I just finished sanding the damaged areas and repainted and re clear coated the wheel.

Had elite coatings here on the forum powdercoat them. I pinstriped the wheels myself. Bought red pinstriping online.

Elite coatings? Great. Are they located in Brooklyn? I'm in Queens

Forget elite. They suck. Go to intrack tires. They do better work. They are located in queens. Google them up.

Did you have a bad experience with Elite? Spoke on the phone with them the other evening and they seemed very legit. I've never used them though. Just wondering...
