Odd gap behind battery compartment?

There is a rather large (to me) opening or gap behind my battery to the engine firewall in front of a vent. (See encircled area in pics.) Does this seem right? Is this how the car was designed? Just curious is all.

no problem! There should be a battery cover though that hides this gap. Only visible when taking the battery cover off.

Mine is he 2nd gen. I don’t know which one you have. Sorry about the crappy photo I hope it helps
