Hello forum.
Here to enjoy and find information for my 2003 FX35.
Right now I'm having problems with my catalytic converters and I'm trying to find replacements. I'm 52 years old so I'm not looking for anything loud and crazy. Just to find some replacements. Any advice for this old guy still in love with his 15yo FX35

Kinetix high flowing catalytic converters. They've got a good reputation, will add power and a little punch, not much, but a little zing to an otherwise nice sounding stock exhaust system. Best thing is you can avoid giving the dealer obscene amounts of your $ for their big bulky garbage. I love mine:).
They're 1/2 wrapped in heat shield material but this is the only pic I have.

On the move....Thanks Bro! I will check into those and find out if I can use them in NY State. And thanks for the picture. Nice job & great idea on the heat shield wrap

I Have them on my 370Z Nismo and i like them. No problem with cel or inspection.
Nice job on the wrap.

Thanks and thanks. I believe NY won't take issue with them as I believe they'll pass even in CA. I pass with flying colors in NC. They're good for ramos in NJ as well. Even though they're much less restrictive, they probably still do a better job than my old cats that had 90k on'em.
I wrapped those pipes on the car and while on my back. It wasn't that bad actually.

Question for you about your wraps....Why wrap them up? Protection? I finally got the Cats you recommended and next weekend I'll be installing them (pics coming soon) and I always look at your picture and thinking about wrapping mine. BTW...hope your FX is doing well as yourself

Most think heat shields are there to prevent a fire caused by hot cats on dry grass/weeds in the event of getting a tire blow out and pulling onto the freeway median for example. I agree with this BUT I believe they're also there to keep the floor boards cool and possibly to keep the heat off the transmission and engine/engine bay. This is why I wrapped them, to prevent radiant heat from heating the floor boards, trans and engine and also to keep them a little warmer than normal for exhaust scavenging purposes. My headers are wrapped and mid-pipes are as well.
I doubt that without the shields the trans or engine will suffer and I know that the coolant needs to and does run between 195-220* which is the planned operating temperature range, typically 195* cruising and I've never seen temps go above 220*, sitting at idle for 20 minutes in 90+* weather.
It's not recommended to wrap the cats completely as this might cause them to get too hot and melt the precious metal within or damage the o2 sensors, so I made sure to cover the top and inside (facing the transmission and engine) and leave the other 1/2.

When you install them, pay attention to how the flanges line up. You might notice that the flange side closest to the transmission butts up to the exhaust manifold but on the opposite side, there's a gap. Close the gaps 1st while focusing on keeping the flanges and gaskets lined up. By doing this there will be no exhaust leaks and the inside of the cat pipe will line up well with the inside of the exhaust manifold pipe as well as the gasket. If they don't line up well, you're impeding flow and this goes for the cat to mid-pipe connection as well. :)

Wow! Now that's what I call a full & detailed explanation. Thank you Dude! I'll post up a picture once I install my Cats. Once again...Thank u

I had the kinetix HFC on my FX35 back in the day and passed inspection with no issues. CEL came on every now and then but a quick clear with an OBD2 scanner and you're fine.

Cats are installed. Sounds great and she does have an extra kick when I hit the gas. Thanks again

Need help. I'm trying to find the part number to the hose in the picture. It's the hose near the oil filter.

Sorry, don't know the part #. You could delete the entire thing. A little more difficult than replacing it but possibly a little cheaper because if you need to replace the hose, you might want to or have to replace the whole damn thing. Those oil "heaters" can cause problems.

Understood and always a Thank you. I'll see if I can track the part number down. Thanks again

You're welcome.
Looks like it's #6 below.
You'd probably be fine with some standard hose with the same inside diameter from a parts store but a direct replacement on this link is cheap enough.
