Normal for exhaust to get alot louder after spirited driving?

I did some spirited driving today and was pushing the FX almost near redline around 6-7K RPM. I know it's normal for the exhaust to be louder when during spirited driving because your flooring it. But i notice after I'm done with spirited driving and driving lighter in stop and go traffic that when I accelerate the exhaust is unusually louder than normal and has a vibration?? It doesn't do this all the time though. It only does it after I've been pushing the car to it's limits and flooring the hell out of it lol:top:

I thought maybe it's because the exhaust is very hot and heated up from the hard spirited driving that it sounds like that. When I shut the car off and it cools down for a while the exhaust is back to normal again with it's regular sound.

interesting....never noticed....I thought exhaust is normally louder when the car hasn't warmed up yet?

Hi,
I have an FX35 2007 and experience the same sound. After driving for 1 hour and the engine shifts back for accelerating or driving on mountings the exhaust makes a louder noise. If the engine has been shut off voor 1/2 hour and start, the sound is gone.
What could this be? Is it some valve in the engine that opens because of the temp.?
Did you find the problem?

You guys should drive spirited more often then. You need to knock out all the cobwebs in your exhausts! :wink (2):

^This.

Mine is all custom so take this with a grain of salt... mine is not only much louder when its cold, but it sounds different as well. It may be that after yours warms up (a short period of high revs will warm the whole system more than a long period of low revs) that the frequency is changing slightly. In essence, its becoming more audible inside the cabin without actually getting "louder".

Aaron,

Did you ever find a solution to your louder exhaust issue, I have the same thing going on and I can notice the exhaust tips in the back are sitting about 2-3 inches lower than when I got the car. Everything checks out well at the dealer though. But I miss the original exhaust note sound. The original growl had a premium car feeling, now it's noticeably loud:disapointed:. I might take it to a muffler shop and get it checked out.

When the metals heat up they shift and it most likely changes the resonating frequency and the actual sound…when it cools down to normal running temp it's back to "normal" - Cold "loud" sound is the motor being louder
