Noise when accelerating from a dead stop!

I feel like someone doesn't want my FX to be good to me anymore. Today I started noticing when I accelerate from a dead stop I hear this rattle noise outside as I give it gas then it just goes away. It almost sounds like a clattering or the sound of castanets. Maybe the valves are starting to become noisy? It doesn't do it all the time. Just sometimes when I accelerate from a dead stop.

Its like someone doesn't want my FX to run good anymore when I baby the hell out of it :damnmate:

BTW I also pumped gas at mobile on Sunday and it wasn't making the noise before that. Atleast that's what I think I could be wrong. Maybe bad gas? :(

I don't know where it's coming from because I can only hear it when I'm driving down an alley or street. I can hear it echo from everywhere so it's hard to pin point it. The engine is quiet at idle and no wierd noises during regular acceleration. It only happens when accelerating from a stop. It actually sounds like castanets or a pinging sound or something. It just rattles like really loud.

I hear some rattles when I'm at the drive thru, but I just think it's just the norm..Maybe check your exhaust system since it just makes noise under load.

try a fresh tank of premium before taking a trip to the dealer, may just be pinging from low octane, are you using regular or premium fuel?

hmm very weird. See if you can get a friend that will drive with you and try to pinpoint where it's coming from. I always use premium 93 speedway btw.

The only noise I hear are these:
- From the exhaust when idling/drive thru, etc pinging slightly from exhaust - this is normal and I have confirmed the noise on BRAND NEW loaners with < 5k miles from Infiniti.
- Engine noise like pins firing you can hear outside the car or especially in drive thru - this is normal because I have confirmed the noise on BRAND NEW loaners with < 5k miles from Infiniti as well as Lexus and dealer confirmed it's just the injectors firing and type of car we have.
- When A/C is turned on will sometimes not always make these weird valve noises and sometimes gets worse if you go on long long trips. The dealer and some people can't hear it, but I can. I can notice these things like crazy so I suspect it's normal. It's done that since I got the car and maybe you guys just don't hear it.

However, 2 days ago for the first time ever and it hasn't happened again....I turned the car on (when it was warmed up well) and the idle turned up but then dropped very very low where it almost stalled and turned off, but didn't. Turned it off and on and never again had happened. I suspect this is the throttle body will need cleaning is just my guess or showing signs that I will need it....so something for us 2nd gens to look forward to after you get 50k miles or so. At least I hope it's that!

I always use premium fuel. I've been pumping 93 since day 1 and always at Mobil 1 only (call me anal lol). I don't mix different types of gas haha. I'm thinking I really did get a bad tank of gas? My buddy told me if I did have a bad tank of gas the engine would of took a shit on me? Never heard of that lol.

The clattering noise I heard from outside of the car when I was driving with the windows rolled down was so loud it scared the shit out of me. It almost sounded like those old maxima's that use to have the timing chain tensioner problem and it would clattering like crazy when accelerating.

By the way I also checked the oil level and its on high not low. Oil has about 4,000 miles on it.

I'd say it's the exhaust. Something loose or debris caught somewhere and under hard accel rubs against something?

Don't think it would be the motor mounts because it would have excessive vibration and I don't have that. As a matter of fact the engine is really quiet on idle and no valvetrain noise. Just under acceleration from a stand still.

Scheduled an appointment for the morning at 7. Ughhh didn't plan on going to the dealer this week:mask:

I have the Same problem had it for a while ....dealer keep saying its normal ...hope u find a solution.

Yes that's what it sounds like i thought it was bad gas but it Neva went away and I always use 93 name brand gas ..I could only hear it with the Windows down accelerating normally from a stop....

Damn if yours never went away after the gas change, I highly doubt mine will. Have you tried the Nissan Ester oil? Your engine has the VVEL tech and fsm recommends the use of it. Suppose to quiet lifters and valves down.

It might be the heat shield for the exhaust system all the first gen FX's get it after awhile.

That's almost surely bad gas. It can also occur with overly advanced timing on cars with analog ignition systems. Try some octane booster. Has it ever happened before?

No it started in the past few days after I pumped gas on Sunday and Mobil. First time happening. Atleast I think it is. I've never heard it before.

Should I refuel right now or wait till the gas is almost empty? If the gas is shit gas inside I don't want to mix it with new gas. I have a little above a quarter tank of gas left.

+1 also sounds like it could be bad gas. Unfortunately I don't think the dealer is going to do much.
Maybe try running a bottle of Seafoam in your tank and top it off with some fresh 93 from Shell, just don't go to the same Mobil from where you just filled it up. I
Hope it all works out
