nitrogen filled tires

whasup guys, is it okay to add regular air to a nitrogen filled tire. my other question is there a special valve stem cap for nitrogen filled tires, or can i use just any replacement valve cap? one of my caps is stripped or the o-ring is bad. :confused.:

if you have tpms then you have to use a cap compatible with tpms, although a regular plastic cap with no metal could also do the job. do not use just any old metal cap though, it will seize on there & ruin the tpms sensor... fas as mixing nitro with regular air, you can do that no problem but as the nitrogen is diluted with regular compressed air so is the benefit of nitrogen removed. benefits of nitrogen is #1 it won't absorb moisture & #2 the molecules are larger so you will not have any normal air seepage as you would with regular compressed air... pressures are more stable with nitrogen

I read on consumer report and some sort of car magazine (Car & Driver?) that paying to fill your tires with nitrogen is probably one of the biggest waste of money... I guess the biggest reason being that a good portion of any air we breath is composed mainly of nitrogen.

Waste of money? Depends on how expensive it is.

I don't understand, "the biggest reason" though - what does our breathing air have to do with Nitrogen filled tires? The whole advantage to Nitrogen is that it doesn't have the other gasses mixed into it like our breathing air. Oxygen = oxidation.

Discount tire offers it as an option, so if I were having tires mounted there then sure, why not?

I don't think I would make the switch over to Nitrogen unless the price is right.

I run nitrogen in my motorcycle tires because that's how I purchased it. Nitrogen is supposed to not expand/contract (ie. react to heat) like atmospheric air.

That being said.... the air we breathe is 70% nitrogen, so the benefit is quite small.
