Hello!

I have joined this forum to ask those of you who are car fanatics (like my husband) for suggestions on Christmas presents. I hope it is appropriate for me to do this here. I have never joined a forum before but thought all of you would have some great ideas. Any and all ideas are welcome. He owns a 2004 FX and loves to work on cars. He loves to drive, read car magazines and watch Top Gear. I am so NOT car savvy so please help me find the perfect gift for my husband.

Thank you!

Stefanie

wow....this is awesome. Do you know if he is a member of this site in case he sees this thread?

Any ideas what he may already have done?
What does he like...more maintenance, performance, electronics, audio, etc?
What is your budget range?

Thanks for the quick response! He is a member of this site so I have created an alias. :) Hopefully he won't figure it out from the details I give!

He does all the maintenance for our cars, although I think that is more a necessity than fun for him. I've thought about tools to help him work on the cars but I think he is too particular in that area. He often talks about the performance of cars and how impressed he is by this car but not that one... I think he fantasizes about racing cars but wouldn't even know how to set something like that up at the race track. He's also very into electronics, especially old speakers and stereo equipment, tube amps... umm... what else can I tell you to give you some ideas...I already got him Sirius satellite in the past which he absolutely loves. Stuff like that would be cool but it's hard to give many details since I am somewhat clueless myself when he talks about the stuff he is into. My budget is about $500.

Does this help? If you think it would be better to e-mail ideas in case he catches on, is that possible? I'm not sure if I signed up for e-mail on here...

Thank you so much for your help!!

Omg. You're like the perfect wife. ;). I'd get him a set of sport/clear taillights ($300) if he has red ones as Viperi suggested. You can find them on eBay. Also badge less grile is nice ($100). If he doesn't have an iPad you can't go wrong with it either. I'm short on time but I'll include some links later on today.

plenum spacer and ipod adaptor are few best things I can think of. both require some extra effort and i am sure he will like that.

If the fx has a dvd player in the rear and a navi in the front you can take the car to an audio shop and get a bypass switch to show the dvd playing on the navigation screen. There is also a way to disable the lockout when in motion. I think this is key for anyone that has these options and should only run you 100-300 based on the shop you go to and how knowledgeable they are.

I tried to respond to your pm but it won't let me yet. Hopefully I'll have enough posts soon to respond. Thanks!

Hmmm, we don't have those in the FX, is it possible to get a navigation system installed to it? Or is that really expensive?

Haha! Thanks for the suggestion, Ge0rge. That looks like a really good option! Ah, I just figured out I need to reply with quote to make it clear who I'm replying to. I'll figure this out eventually...

Do you need/want a boyfriend? All kidding aside, what a wonderful idea.

Might I suggest a polishing kit with a DA Polisher?

Ok, going to research what a plenum spacer is...

What about a remote car starter? Or is that just lame?

The only issue with an aftermarket remote start is the person doing the installation. I had a system installed in my previous car and while it worked, it wasn't what I would call reliable.

I agree...and to be honest....my wife knows I want remote start, but won't take it because she knows I'm anal about anyone near my car, who installs it, what is exactly installed, etc....but that's just me and many other guys on this site....but you know your husband best.

my wife would love remote start too and I can take her car...she won't car about anything...as long as there is a button and it makes the car start.

I think he would be ok with me having someone install the remote starter. I would just be nervous about picking the right place to install it. I'll have to do my research I suppose... I would hate to have it only sometimes work.

Depending on your location, we may be able to recommend installers (Tri-state represent here!), but then again , we dont want you to give up your identity ! :tongue (2):

If you send a private message to one of the admins with your husband's member name, they might know his preferences better and have a better idea of what he may want for his FX.

If you live near a race track you could give a racing experience. There are all kinds of varieties of race cars and exotics to learn, ride in, or drive. Pricing will range from $200-$1000+. It should be a good professional track though. The county fair grounds might not be the best venue. A lot depands on your local.
