new to the site 04 fx 35 need help!

hey, im new to the site and the auto world as a whole. ive had my fx for a while and its got around 54 grand on the mileage. however, i get about 14 mpg with premium gas and the performance is lagging. what can i do in the simplest terms possible to get things back to the way they SHOULD BE??!

get it serviced or service it yourself

change the oil

get a "tune up"

use some sea foam

.....thats all the simple stuff lol

welcome to :iS:

Dissasemble the intake from filter box through upper plenum. Clean it all out, use proper cleaner on the MAF sensor and in the throttle body. Or have a shop do all of that.

Get a K&N drop in replacement filter (high flow). Fits into the stock FX and never gets replaced again, just cleaned once or twice a year.

Definitely stick with premium - 91 or 93 Octane. On your next tank, do some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, and I've never tried the seafoam cleaning system but hear good things about it.

All of these things should show improvement during the first tank of gas, if you are driving normally. If it doesn't, then I would look into a tune. That seems like really low mpgs for an FX, unless you are really agressive.

After hitting 100,000, I did the intake cleaning that I describe above and saw an immediate 2.5 mpg increase. I'm on my fourth tank of gas since the cleaning and my computer says 19.0 mpg.

All the things jumbo mentioned above then reset the ecu and drive it like you stole it so the computer knows and adjusts to your new driving habits. The FX will basically drive the way you treat it.

+1 on the ECU reset. Damn - I didn't reset after my cleaning! :err:

Guess it's not hurting anything since my mileage improved to better than ever before. But I generally make it a practice to ECU reset after messing around with intake or exhaust. Slipped through the cracks this time...:embarrassed:
