These will work for 2006-2008 first gens. I used them on my car and they fit just fine. They are a little shorter than the OEM knobs, but still work just fine. If you have big hands and fingers, it can get a little tricky to turn the dials, but they do work. I tried a set of the first batch on my car and they fit just fine. So first gens, order away! I also did a G37 chrome rotary dial retrofit you can see too, instead of the black rubber one the FX has.

Can you post a thread on that Rotary, that looks sweet, I never knew G guys were doing that.

Back on topic, your saying that in the 06-08 FX's that the Gen 2 knobs will fit?

Or are you testing out the knobs for globe?

1st Gen FX35 (2006 variant) here. Getting ready to throw down on these knobs and so i'm clear. I will end up getting 4 new knobs but will only be using 2 of them correct?

That rotary dial came off a unit from a G car. I bought a unit on eBay. I think I am the only FX/person to ever do a swap like this. No, I am not testing them for Globe. Last summer I tried Ian's (PMG705) knobs from Globe (first batch) and they were a good fit. I bought my knobs straight from Japan at five times the cost.

You can always cut your current OEM knobs in half, use JB weld to glue the knobs together to make a spacer if you want to raise them.

Yes, you will have an extra set of knobs. If I remember, my knobs were slightly different height. One pair was just a tad shorter than the other two.

Thanks for the input Andrew. I think I'll wait for the correct size knobs, I'm in no rush.....
 
If I start making and selling these knobs, they will go as pairs, so you guys don't need to split a set between 2 guys.
 
Are the two sets of Gen 2 knobs the same Globe?

I mean in terms of the core and sizing?

EDIT: So two of them are longer and two are shorter. Is there anything else different about them?

Judging by Andrew's pictures, only the longer ones would be of use to the Gen 1 guys.

Seems like the only modification needed to make fully compatible gen 1 (2006-2008 atleast) knobs would be make them a bit longer, and package just two knobs instead of four.

There must be something I am missing...

Gen2 has 4 knobs, 2 on top for radio controls and 2 at the bottom for AC controls. The AC knobs are slightly longer. That's the way they are with OEM knobs, and that's how I made them. Otherwise they do use the same cores, and are the same diameter. So theoretically they can be swapped.

I think even the longer knobs are still short for the 06-08. And I'm not sure if the diameter is the same as well so gotta look into it. I would hope that the longer gen2 knobs would work perfect, but they're just way too short to be satisfactory.

Andrew has clearly proven they are the correct diameter, and that at least for the 06-08 models the core you are currently using wil work.

So length is the only consideration left to consider, is there anyway we can approach the manufacturer to make a set of longer knobs, even if it is only another 6mm-8mm?

I believe the width may also be an issue as previously stated. Gen 1 knows seem to be wider at first glance.

The width could be wider and the height needs another 1/3 inch or so. As long as the core works then that's a big chunk of the problems gone. Will keep you guys posted!

But 03-05 could be an issue.... The core and the base structure is very different.

Awesome! Will wait for you to make the taller knobs in pairs. If you decide not to do it, let us know and I will probably get the current production knobs since I have an '06.
