New owner from an M3 to FX

Hey,

I just bought a 2004 Copper/Black FX35 AWD w/Sports (20") with only 30k miles... My previous ride was a pretty well equipped E46 M3 and I spent endless hours on m3forum.net...lol. So I'm new to FX but not to forums... I'm a married man now and needed something a little bit more suttle and hence opted for the FX.... I look forward to discussing some light but classy mods with you all.

1st off, can someone please guide me to a basic list of must-haves/must-do maintenence fixes for the FX so I know what I got myself into? What things am I supposed to look at or be worry off while owning an FX and are there any recalls on the ride that need to be taken care of?

Thanks! :top:

Welcome to the Scene and congrats on the FX!

The 35r's will direct you to most of the the bolt on and easy to do mods but you can have a look in the FX35 mods section and read up on mods others have done. There are also tags and search features which are very easy and helpful.

hey, thanks for the warm welcome and helpful tips. i'll look into those links soon.

i need to have 10 posts before i can post some pics... so i guess we'll just have to wait a bit.

cheers.

Welcome, congrats on the new FX!

The E46 is such a great car. I had a 04 330Ci Sport and loved it. Just extremely well balanced and composed. The E46 M3 is a true classic and probably my favorite BMW of all. Enjoy the FX. It's probably as close to a sport sedan experience as you are going to find from an SUV.

i came real close to getting a 330i, but i decided i wanted more of an suv type car, and ended up with the FX. a 330i performance package though would be real nice.

just dropped the ride at the kings automall infiniti dealership this morning for an oil change and general 'checkup'.

got the car back from the dealers... they said everything looks good and the car is like new! i asked them to print out the service history record from everything that was ever done on the car.

i realized that the cup holder was missing a center piece when my coffee cup slid from one side to the other while driving and spilled all over the place... the dealer quoted $250+ to replace the cup holder... what's he smokin!?!?!?!?!?

Welcome to :iS:
Glad the checkup went well! Time to mod. First thing you're probably itching for is more power, seeing what you're coming from, & the fact that you got AWD, while good in the snow, sucks a bunch of power. M3 sounds great. Too bad it had to go.
If you're not gonna blow the motor, try some of the engine add ons. The VQ responds pretty well to them.
You also have 10 posts, so it's time to show & tell.

yea i would def. like some more power in this thing.... now what exactly is the VQ? i need to search on that...

i chose the awd mainly because i'm from a cold state where it snows more than half the year.... the m3 was great in the snow with the right set of winter wheels (killed the look of the car tho) but it was just too risky to drive.

gimme some time and i'll post some pics of my old rides. i've been a nissan fan forever and have owned 2 j30's, maxima, 240sx, altima and now an fx....

btw, i'm 28 years old and work as an IT consultant for Sogeti USA. i wonder what the avg. age of fx owners is...

hey, does your car make a little noise under the driver side like a rod hitting something lightly when you first start the car and start driving till 2nd gear?

Something may be loose so you may want to have a look under the FX. Possibly a piece of the exhaust.
