Hey, read this forum pretty much any time I have an issue needing to be solved on my 07 fx35. Original owner with 250k miles. Had an 04 but was totaled in late 2006. Currently it’s my dog mobile and beater but I absolutely love it and still take long trips to Colorado from Midwest no problem. I do all the work on it myself and it’s not perfect but I love knowing all the in’s and outs of the car, what every little noise is etc. Clean car is now macan turbo. Trying to use a link for a caliper conversion but it made me make an account.
Hi.
Things I’ve had to replace:
Wheel bearings (2-3x)
Exhaust (now using nvidia)
Cats, tried using hi flow, straight, too loud and annoying. Even with added resonators. Don’t do it if you have aftermarket exhaust.
Uprev tune
Grom Bluetooth x2
Drive shaft came loose and smashed a hole in my transmission but apparently it’s “fine” so there has been a hole in my transmission case for 5 years. No issues. Check your bolts!
I’ve changed the fluid for tranny 3-4 times. Nothing unusual
O2 senors (all)
spark Plugs 2x (prolly not necessary but I wanted to)
I tried preemptively changing plug coils to NGK...big fail. 2 of 6 failed within a year so I went back to my original. Don’t buy ngk coils :/ they also won’t warranty etc very lame. Prolly never need to change them unless you have an issue.
Made a custom air intake because mine cracked and fell apart.
Belts
Lights
driver ballast
Replaced a door and sound proof lined the doors while I was at it. It helps.
Plenum spacer
Driver seat bottom cushion. Waited about a year for one to pop up on eBay. Swapped it and big difference
Currently have a neat carbon/leather steering wheel on order. Not sure how this will play out but mine is beat to hell. I’ll post a picture when I get this in.
oil every 3-4K miles.
Had to refurbish brakes
Brake lines
4 sets of rotors (ebay rotors, took me a while to find a good brand, BUY HART BRAND! They are the best for the money. Ever pads are good.)
my fuel gauge definitely isn’t correct below 1/2 tank. Tried cleaning pump sensors no dice. So I just know how far I can go. It’s not bad but it tells me I’m on E when I still got at least 4 gallons.
rear wiper hasn’t worked for a few years, took the back apart and it was too much so I just said nope. Sound padded that too.
Every hydraulic hood/rear hatch holder thing is crap need to be replaced. Same with door holders ( I forget what they are called). Have the parts to do it but you really gotta take the door apart to do it and my padding is over the area so I bailed on fixing that for now.
Been using oz superleggera wheels for over a decade. Had to repaint them and recent had to fix a bend I put in it from driving over a bump too fast. Yolo.
all of the suspension components. Huuuuugggeee upgrade. The struts/etc that was huge difference. Cheap too, definitely do that if your car is old. Makes it feel so tight again.
Using BC coil overs. They are ok, was nice because they allowed me to lower the car a smidge. Rusted fairly quickly and I can’t adjust the rears anymore.
recently added 25mm spacers. Definitely looks better. Do it.
has a little bit of rust AIDS going on, mostly driver side behind low fender. I pulled the plastic and there was like 12 inches of dirt, decayed leaves, etc. sprayed in anti rust, whatever. When it gets bad I’ll cut it out and bondo fix it.
