Hello all

I have been reading stuff on this forum for around 3 weeks and finally picked up my 2006 fx35 on black Friday. I look forward to learning more about the FX and becoming part of the InfinitScene community.

Welcome to the forum! iS is a great world to live in as you can learn the basic maintenance bits about your car and save money (and time) OR have fun, spend a little and increase your performance. It's your choice, there are helpful ethusiasts here either way!

I am not sure if I need to start a new thread for questions so I will post it here.

The day we brought the car home we stopped by the gas station and as we were pulling out we heard a metallic rattling noise on acceleration. I didn't hear anything during the test drive but of course it happens after we left the used car dealer. Seems to happen only when accelerating.

Anyways I decided to take the fx to an Infiniti dealer for an oil change and to check the noise. They told us that the sound is coming from the y-pipe. They said they tried to tighten it up but it still made the noise. The next step would be to change it at a cost of $1175+tax. They also said we didn't have to do anything now as it does not affect the car in any way but it will have to be done sooner or later. It is a new car to us and don't really want to ride around with that kind of noise and I was pretty bummed that we might have to shell out that kind of money not even a week into owning the fx. Does that price seem right for the job?

The service guy also suggested a transmission fluid change for around $260 and when we asked our usual mechanic they said they do it for around $60. Are they talking about the same thing?

When we called to tell them we would just pick up the car and not do the work they said the catalytic converter was starting to corrode and they could change them for us under warranty otherwise it could cost about $3000. So we told them to go ahead. They also said they could change out our dash because there was a recall for a bubbling dash. I initially told them they didn't have to because there was nothing wrong with ours. But I slept on it and now I am thinking maybe I should get this done so it doesn't happen in the future. What do you guys think? Are they just replacing the dash with a new one with the same problem or did they fix the problem so if we change the dash it won't bubble in the future.
