New FX35 Owner

Hello - I just purchased a 2005 FX35 AWD that is stock. Black on black, both tech packages, 20 inch rims, etc....love the car, but like most guys, want it to go faster, but still get decent mileage.

I have read some posts where guys have added: Z tubes, spacers, and cold air intakes.

Newbie question, but what is a Z tube, what does it do and where do I buy them. Also, I understand the spacers and aftermarket intakes are not the same and I need a special or different one for an AWD. I called a local shop that carries these items and even the manager was uncertain if all spacers were the same, along with cold air intakes for AWD.

Any advice on where to spend my hard-earned-dough and what to purchase first to make the biggest difference would be appreciated. Thanks...

All intakes are the same no diff between RWD and AWD/ Ztube is made by stillen and replaces the oem tube from the throttle body to the air filter/box

Wouldn't it be nice if our vehicles could do 0-60 in 3 sec flat yet sip gas like a Prius? LOL! Welcome to IS!

I don't think AWD needs a special air intake. There may be some specifically designed for FX35 as opposed to FX45, like Stillen. When you say spacer, you probably mean plenum spacer (not wheel spacer). This is a specific mod for FX35s and people tend to go with MD plenum spacers...just do a search for that on this site. I know there are several threads about that.

The Stillen Cold Air Intake is a double edged sword in terms of gas mileage. After I installed mine (it comes with a Z-tube) I saw an average increase of 3mpg. The performance benefits and sound however incline me to drive much more aggressively which destroys fuel economy. I love it though and would highly recommend it for an inexpensive upgrade.

IS welcome you!! Plenum spacers are made for the VQ35DE thats our engine mode which is also carried by Nissan Z and the Infiniti G series. Pretty much what it does is help better and more air flow into the engine.( better and more air flow= HP plus better response). Intake will vary between the 35 and the 45(V8) for obvious reason but it won't change no matter If the FX35 is AWD or FWD.

Hope it helps!

Look in the engine/drivetrain section and search for "Z tubes, spacers, and cold air intakes" and you will get many threads on the subject and where to purchase them.

And welcome to the Scene!

Edit....Only one thread is necessary, so in the future please refrain from starting multiple threads on the same topic.
