New FX35 owner - Shift panel replacement needed.

Hello,

I've searched the form to little avail in regards to replacing an 06-08 shift panel.

I bought a used FX35 and apparently whoever used it before me had wrestling matches on the shift panel, it's scuffed to all hell but the rest of the car is beautiful (I question the shrewdness of using such soft-finish materials as accents).

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a place where I'm supposed to acquire a shift panel replacement and if there are any DIY instructions from real individuals. I wouldn't mind replacing it with the OEM, but I'd prefer to replace it with someone (not wood) that's more sturdy and less likely to scuff.

Thanks,
V

Welcome to the scene,
I've never heard of complaints of materials or workmanship of the shift panel. It is likely a case of excessive use from the previous owner and I don't think you should be leery of another OEM one. When you get 10 posts, you can show us some helpful pictures of the unsightly damage.

First of all, thanks for your responses everyone! I greatly appreciate the advice and help offered thus far.

My entire console plate is scuffed up (I'm assuming it was someone throwing a purse with fancy metal adornments around) around the shift knob. Being that as it is, I need to replace more than the outer chrome portion.

Stickerbomb it

I can't post links so I've replaced all the https with** ... Sorry, but I couldn't think of anything else to do.

That material you have on the shift panel is more reminiscent of the 350z I just traded, is that a sticker or dimpled plastic?

The 06-08 panels are high gloss aluminum in appearance. My father and mother have both driven Maximas and my sister drives an Altima, so I'm familiar with that material. My father's has several scratches in it, as does my sister's and mother's, but none quite to the degree that mine has.

When I look up the entire shift panel, it's about $400 for the whole console assembly so I was hoping there was a more study part I could order, or at least a specific part that includes only the upper cosmetic plates...

**infinitipartsusa.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=468565&siteid=55&catalogid=3323 <--- This would be great, but my plates has a different layout than this (buttons and hazards are towards the back instead of the front). My console is different than the one J3FF3R$0N posted. (2003-2005 are apparently the same, then 2006-2008, then 2009+)

Pictures (I can't post links or images since I have less than 10 posts, so I'll just have to give you web addresses).

(1) You can see major scuffs at a distance.

(2) There are deep scratches on the driver side.

(3) Even the outer trim has scratches.

I had similar issues with mine when I got it, previous owner used to throw his keys on it and it left some nasty marks and couple of small dents. Instead of replacing it, since it's just cosmetic damage, I just wrapped it in carbon fiber. (///13418) I know some members on here did that or plasti dipped it. That would be probably the easiest way to go about it and least expensive.
