New for me FX45 with hitch, can't find wiring for trailer

I bought an '06 FX45 that has the Curt hitch installed, but I've crawled around the back and cannot find the trailer wiring. Anybody know where that might be hiding? Where is it in the OEM towing package?

I suppose there is a possibility the previous owner only used the hitch for a bike rack.. but this is a nice class III hitch and I bet there was something being towed with this rig once upon a time.

If it's not right by the receiver then my guess is that it was never installed. Some people install class 3/4 hitches for bike racks and will install the wiring at a later date if needed. I would pick up an oem harness and install that.

If the oem wiring harness is installed it would be located below the spare tire compartment. You would need to remove the spare tire and the lining to access the harness or to install a new hitch wiring. The hitch part of the wiring goes thru an access hole behind the rear passenger side tire under the small accessory compartment area in the cargo area.

^^ Thank you sir. Pretty sure then that I don't have a wiring harness so I picked an OEM one up from eBay for $94 shipped.

I also spent a lot of time looking for the right ball mount... my goal was to provide a bit of an extension so the FX won't have to be backed as far into the lake to launch my boat. I also wanted several inches of rise to decrease tongue weight and to have the back end of the boat either level or slightly lower than the front to ease loading/unloading. I wanted a fancy one-piece unit that won't rust or peel. And finally, I wanted a unit that would not significantly decrease towing capacity like many extensions. Settled on the Draw-Tite 40383 from Amazon for $64 shipped... here is the ball mount.. of course it will be inverted into the "rise" position to give 5" of rise.

So for me it should be located underneath the rear storage compartment? The OEM harness will arrive on Saturday and I imagine it comes with instructions... but do you know if I'll be needing to remove the right rear tire.. or any need to get the vehicle on jackstands?

Rented one of these last week. Very impressed with it, but has limited seating.. A lot of fun towing people or just messing around. So easy to drive that my 8 y/o niece was a pro after a few min lol. Have fun with her!

The Speedster is one helluva unique boat. I personally don't like fishing or laying around in a boat... pretty much bores the hell out of me. I much more like hard riding in a jetski, doing jumps and turns, and coming back in 20 minutes later for an hour rest.

When shopping for a boat, the Speedster was the only boat that has the power, acceleration, and handling the most similar to a jetski. For me, that is a lot of fun. Couple that with an awesome aftermarket sound system and I'm pretty happy on the water. As for seating, there are just 3 of us in my family so it works fine. Still just enough room for when my daughter brings a friend. Here are a couple pictures of mine:

And here are a couple pictures of a guy on the seadoo forum. I know I've hit some decent jumps before but nothing of this magnitude - awesome! Try that in any other boat. Or try going 60mph and cranking the wheel hard 90 degrees. Fun stuff!

Anyhow, to get back on topic I'll post pics of the FX45 towing and launching the Speedster soon... parts should start arriving today...

One more guy having fun in his Speedster...

No, when I removed my oem hitch I didn't need to jack up the FX but come to think of it, it may have helped a bit when I had to partially unhook the muffler. But you do not have to remove the rear tire either. But for the 03-05 FX the hitch part of the harness came into the FX through a hole located at the far rear passenger side of the cargo area under all the cargo trim.

I'm looking forward to pics of the boat and FX hooked up. Please try to include pics of the "empty" hitch. Do you think the Curt hitch stands out much? Does your rear end sag at all with the added weight of the empty hitch. (I'm looking to buy a hitch soon.)

Nice collection of cars. I agree that the hitch is not noticeable at all. Peel off the sticker and the hitch will disappear. My curt hitch spans both exhaust pipes and to me it's not an eyesore.

David, my wife really does want a boat, but what would I do with that thing in downtown.. I would then have to buy a big house to go with the boat lol.
