New Custom Headlights, Painted Side Vents & Painted Tail Lights

I bought an extra set of vents to have them painted. Took them to my local auto body shop and they didn't want to do it saying they couldn't guarantee the paint would adhere to the chrome plating. Can you tell what process your shop used and is the paint holding up over time?

OP sold the car. OP last seen on there was in April 2016. A couple other members also had this done. Hope they'll chime in on this.
I suggest to strip the chrome yourself. Just use the 3M Brown Scotch pad. The chrome comes off quite easily.

I just vinyl it gloss black. It requires you to remove the vent but it's reversible if I ever want to go back to chrome.

Did mine but they didnt come chrome they came in a matte silver finish because my car is 2010. I just sanded mine down and put 3 coats of plastic adhering primer. Let it sit over night/ wetsanded with 2000. Then I put 3-4 coats of black and then 3 coats of clear. Did them over 2 years ago and they look as good as new.

As to the sandblast idea, I inquired of a local shop and they did not recommend sandblasting for fear of damaging the plastic. They suggested using an adhesion promoter to cover the chrome (not primer) and then spray painting the part. When things warm up around here, I'm going to try it.

As to the vinyl idea, how well would the vinyl hold up over time given that the vents probably get hit with a good bit of road debris?

Looks freakin' awesome!!!

Few questions (because I'm looking into some of these same ideas) - Did you use a kit on the rear bumper? I don't like that my 2015 QX70 is one piece, moonlight white w/black trim. I've seen others that look much nicer, like yours. Is the rear bumper unique to your vehicle/year? Or perhaps, package? Also - your Rims; did you paint those/have been powder-coated, what? They are incredible!
