new 09 fx35 owner

hey guys,

i'm new the forum and after looking around, i decided to join this one. i just purchased an 09 fx35 with 22000 miles from Niello Infiniti in Concord, CA. having some issues, but hopefully will get resolved soon.

thanks - merry xmas to all!

hey guys,

thanks! i'm loving the car right now, except for the electrical problem that keeps occuring.

the speedometer shuts down and all other warning lights turn on after a certain amount of time driving the vehicle. after the 2nd time I restarted the vehicle, the "Service Engine Light" came on. This happened approximately 10 times within 400 miles of driving. has anyone ever experienced this before? i'm about to take off the wheels to check the speed sensors (that's what the salesman is saying they'll do when i bring it in). i have a slight feeling they forgot to tighten it. this happens sporadically, but typically after about 30 minutes of driving. i'm really worried this may affect the odometer reading. it was sold with about 22400 miles, but if this happened before, anyone could've driven it for a great deal of time without racking any miles.

i have a video of the problem, but i can't post since i'm new. thanks in advance!

til you reach 10 posts you can pm any staff member the link and they will post it for you

obviously defective ECU or some computer chip......was the car bought new? If not, maybe previous installer got the ECU wet due to a crap install?....maybe the car was in some bad accident also, could be so many reasons especially if you didn't buy brand new and didn't have it the whole time.

thanks jdTrader for the input. the car was bought as a "certified pre-owned" vehicle with an extended "wrap" warranty. i really hope it's not due to the accident because the carfax shows it as clean title with no accidents at all. with such low mileage, i would really hate to think that i was scammed by the dealer. i have another appointment with them on tuesday and hopefully they can do something about this. i really hope they don't try to find excuses to not replace the ecu...

any other suggestions?

I don't think anyone has had this kind of issue and it appears it's easy for you to reproduce and know if it was corrected, so that is a good thing knowing that what they do will fix it.

We have seen cases here where bad aftermarket installs (for example install of aftermarket sub going through firewall that is not sealed properly will leak water and get computer components wet). I suspect if it's a bad install from a previous owner, then that wouldn't be covered, but if you bought it from a dealer than I would think they would provide a break....of course assuming this is an issue from previous owner since we haven't seen anyone have this issue.

Hopefully it's just a bad ecu and they replace. Infiniti dealers tend to give much less hassle than other dealers and just fix items versus give you a big hassle like ford, chevy, etc dealers.

thanks jd.

i just sent a complaint to InfinitiUSA. after i took the wheels off yesterday, i noticed a lot of corrosion, particularly at the exhaust shield and on various bolts. i saw some pitting/cracking paint on the rear bumper too when i was clay/waxing the car. i thought CPO cars are supposed to go under a lot of scrutiny before they sell it...i hope all of this can be resolved. it's especially disappointing since i'm experiencing these problems right after i purchased it.

Sounds like it may had been in a salt water flood? That would definitely cause potentially computer issues down the road. It would be interesting to see where it was first bought/registered.

They should not, but it depends on the integrity of the dealer. My son bought a Certified SRT8 from a dealer on Long Island that had deep gashes on the interior front sidewalls. Couldn't pass state inspection to say nothing about what should have been inspected by them prior to sale. After some pressure they gave him 2 new Goodyear RSA run flats @ no charge (usually $500 a piece).

Don't let the dealer give you a hard time, tell them they have to make good on this.

the carfax shows that it's from new york. would infiniti allow certifications for damaged vehicles like this?

I didn't think carfax is a company that certifies anything. I thought it simply was a way to keep a history on the vehicle even though its not mandatory? I could be way off so someone who knows please verify

He's talking about Infiniti's "Certified Pre- owned" designation.

Mine is Infiniti certified...my understanding is that it just passed their inspection and it came with this warranty 100,000 where if there are engine or transmission (major item issues), that is it fully covered even out of warranty being part of the 100,000.

i just dropped it off at the dealership for service. i hope they can fix this problem, but for some reason the check engine light went away after i shut off the car when i got there. i'm really worried the car can't be fixed. infinitiUSA is supposed to contact me tomorrow about this problem. wish me luck guys!

just got word from the dealer. they said all of the codes are pointing towards the ABS unit, but they'll test it again after replacing the unit. hopefully this solves it...
