I just received my HID foglight kit and went about installing it onto my car...
but i ran into a problem.

The HIDs I bought from ebay says its plug-n-play, however, the socket of the fog light didn't fit into the ballast (i have H8 lights)

i plugged it in another way and the HIDs lit up, but my question is, (pictured below)

is this how I am supposed to plug the kit? (there was a 1 page picture instruction, lol)

If this is the correct way to plug in the kit, then the connection between my original socket and the exposed wires present a fire hazard, doesnt it? Its also rather loose and i'm afraid would come off after i fly over some pothole...

PS i have never installed HIDs on any car before so this is a first for me.
- i went under the wheel well with no rhino ramp or jackstand
- took me forever to figure out what to do.. i took off my grill for no reason, sigh
- I bought from the same seller as themerchant, except i goofed and didnt get the slim version.

I believe he's talking about the connection from the oem connector to the ballast. If the HID bulb fits into the fog light correctly, but you can't have a good extension between the oem harness and the ballst input than you might want to cut the oem connector off and connect the ballast input with some kind of waterproof connection. (Solder and heat shrink would be the best way to go)

The kit looks kind of weird. The kits that I have seen or used do not have a direct connection from the ballast to the bulb like the one here. The bulb piece does not have any wires which makes this kit pretty short.

If the bare wires are what you are worried about you can buy a male plastic piece that will shield the connectors and connect directly into the oem plug. I did this once for a different kit. I can't seem to find the link to that site I bought it from.

It looks a little funny becausr both reds and both blacks are going through the rubber grommet. The wires from the ballast to the new HID bulbs is plenty long.

I see everything but a H8 socket on here, but if the pins are loose (might just be because no socket) you may still want to use a direct connection.

But verify the HID bulb does indeed fit in the fog light or you have the wrong bulb.

no, the wire from the car will not fit the ballast directly. only way i can think of to fix this is to find that male connector. or maybe lots of electrical tape..

in the meantime, i installed all my LEDs i bought from superbrightleds.com.. and I'm not satisfied at all! pictures to come.

Yea, the male connector is what I was referring to. Some kits seem to leave that out and just come with the bare naked male connector. Like I said you can buy one of those plastic male connector to fix the naked problem .

But the kit does look weird to me because eventhough the wires from the ballast to the bulb is long enough however there is no wires coming from the bulb to connect to the wires coming from the ballast like on my Mtec kit. Just seems like they skimmed on that part to save a few bucks. If they sent you the correct kit then the bulb should fit into the housing.

I would contact seller and ask for an exchange for the slim version (H8) if available.
Package everything back up (resell able condition) and at the very least demand a refund if you don't get what yo want. But I'm sure they will accommodate your exchange. Because using ebay and paypal you can always dispute it and get your money back that way. I don't want to sound like a salesman for them but it works.

Don't settle for less.:top:

I did a bmw just the other day same type kit, cut the gromet off & if it's a permanent install then cut & solder is def best... the bmw guy did'nt want to cut & I had no connector, so I used a bit of plastic epoxy & surrounded the terminals sticking out & kinda made a plug. didn't overdo the epoxy to the factory plug side so it. can be removed cleanly...that is not the best way though...

maybe its the "electrical tape around the socket" that caused premature failure?

I had mine since last ~April and still going strong, only thing is sometimes I have to toggle the foglight switch if I see only one on.

maybe its under warranty?

goodluck
