Aloha! I am looking into replacing my stock stereo unit for my 2005 FX35 for an aftermarket unit. Does anyone know of any that will fit in the stock unit without modifying the existing area where it sits. Let me know. Mahalo!

negative bro

do it like what doc did and modify the clock area to fit the head unit in

all that just for an ipod? should've just gotten the harmon kardon.
I wouldn't rip apart the console and take away the clock to stick some headunit eyesore there. just my $.02.
if you were ripping apart the console and doing all that just for an ipod i would've atleast tried to mount it where the tape player is (which is a huge huge pain in the ass but looks a whole lot cleaner....i don't think anyone here ahs that done but this guy in the town over from me actually has his aftermarket HU mounted there)
If anything i would put an aftermarket headunit touchscreen thing where the stock screen is now, and move that screen someplace else (like where the eyeglass holder is so that it folds up and everything looks clean)

but i guess for an easier, cheaper, less complicated install, you can just cut open the console and stick it right there where the clock is..

looked at the HK but wasn't a fan. this looks more OEM. especially with the led's color matched to the factory amber stuff. also looked into the tape player option, but it was a lot more work than this, you get into relocating the factory modules and all that, and its hard to go back to stock from a mod like that. this mod allows me to go back to stock in about 15 minutes. aftermarket HU's in the stock screen location are what i'd like to get to eventually. but again, that is a big mod, and its a LOT more expensive. this mod cost me like $150, and is 100 times better than the Nissan OEM iPod integration kit. got a full color screen with album art, and the functionality of the iPod. i was getting sick at the tough of browsing 40 gigs of music through one line of text, with only the track up/down, and fast forward and reverse buttons to navigate.

the nissan one sucks.
I liek the Hk because of where i mounted the controls and screen (under armrest;a-pillar, respectively). its extremely easy to go back to stock as well, without having to buy another piece of the console or the clock.

yea i just dont dig the aftermarket look of the HK i think was the biggest thing. sitting on the dash like that just screams "break my windows". I got a spare clock and trim piece on ebay for 8 bucks cuz it had a dent in it. i used that to fit the HU too, so when i go back to stock i'll be reinstalling the one that was in the car when i bought it.

hmm i see what you mean. personally i would break in for your HU over my little HK screen though :-P

Any double DIN aftermarket HU with 6.5" or 7" screen could be installed in the OEM location. You just have to relcate the amber info/AC/Radio screen somewhere, like the overhead sunglass holder.

might want to look into the Kenwood Kos-V1000 or Kos-V500. They are called Audio Portals and they have several different input options including SAT, Video, iPod, USB, and more.

Both units are controlled by either a 4.3" touch screen LCD or a 7" LCD. The V1000 also comes with 4 X 50W amp.

Here is a picture of the 4.3" LCD which also mounts on a standard Windshield mount.

I'm looking to move the amber monitor soon and replace it with the Kenwood DNX-8120 ... most likely move the amber monitor where the clock is... went to a local shop here in the valley and they can do the install and all the equip around 2g's... luckily I know the owner of a shop back in 805 area where I'm from and I'm sure it'll be cheaper if you know someone that can hookup on the install... I know a couple guys here on the forum have done it themselves... only concern the local shop had was some bar (or something like that) he mentioned that may get in the way of the headunit sitting flush... but I don't think that'll be a problem... on here somewhere is some shots of rookie's with an alpine headunit sitting perfectly...

wow i like that a lot. this would be a great solution if you could get flush mounted into your clock spot. i'm gonna look into this a bit more. can you play ipod video on it?
