A couple of years ago I realized that I'd blown my left dash speaker. I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to upgrade and because I wanted the sound to be consistent in all (3) locations (left, center, and right), I bought (2) sets of the Boston Acoustics S35 3 1/2" S Series Coaxial Speakers from Amazon. To make installation easier, I bought a set of off-set screwdrivers, an extending magnet, and a mirror. And as I'd hoped, installation was pretty straight forward. I was done in about 30 minutes. Hardest part was removing the grilles without damaging them.
But, I wasn't happy with the sound. The sound coming from these new speakers was substantially lower than that coming from the other speakers. Before I'd started this, one of the install guys at my local Car Stereo King had warned me that our factory speakers are running at 2 ohms and since aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms, the volume coming out of anything that he installed would sound lower. He basically refused to sell me anything short of a complete system. I thought he was full of it so I decided to do it myself and unfortunately, he was right. The good news is that I found an honest guy Stereo King and have since given them other business.
Apparently, the factory Bose speakers (tweeters) are 4 ohm in the dash, but they are wired in parallel with the left and right 4 ohm door speakers, which creates a 2 ohm load for the bose amp on the left and right channels. The center speaker is a 2 ohm load as well but it has its own channel. The rear door speakers are 4 ohm wired parallel to the 4 ohm rear pillar tweeters to create a 2 ohm load for the rear left and right channels.
In the end, I removed the Boston Acoustic speakers and ordered a OEM replacement speaker from Infiniti Parts Online for about $40. Here's the part number: 28148CL70A. Here's the link:

Needless to say, I have (2) sets of Boston Acoustics S35 3 1/2" S Series Coaxial Speakers and (2) sets of Metra 71-027C Speaker Wiring Harnesses from Crutchfield that I will be selling as soon as I take the time to post them. I also have great audio and electronics friend at Stereo King.
