Need help/advice picking a new exhaust.

Yea I know the Nismo keeps more of the "exotic tone" that all you guys love and I heard it many times and always wanted one myself...until I saw and heard the Invidia. But really how exotic is it when you hear it everytime a stock G or FX drives by?...which is quite a bit here in CA. Personally, I like the throatier roar of the Invidia, my FX is no where near stock and I don't want it to sound that way either....just my opinion. But can't go wrong with either exhaust really...

Every time a Z, G, or FX drives by I snap my neck to look. Pretty sure that sound won't get old.

I agree. Invidia or Nismo exhaust note, you'll definitely turn your head. Exhaust note is a preference so they are all good choices.

Another Chicago member has a straight pipe and flowmaster on his FX45, wow, it turns heads. Not like a Ford V8, but turns heads more like a Maserati V8. I'm guessing I'll get a lot of comments from that post=)

Still looking for the Nismo S-tune exhaust... This exhaust(used) are as rare as one of those no sun roof FXes.. Lol

Wow...I'd love to hear that!

question, is the Nismo cat-back exhaust and the nismo S-tune cat-back exhaust the same item?

Nope.

Nismo cat-back exhaust, I assume you mean off special edition Nismo 350z (or was it 370z?) (OEM off the car).

Either way, it is milder, and 2.5" diameter pipe, but larger tips, single wall.

S-tune is 3.0" diameter pipe, louder and different tips.

cheapest so far

the things you find when you are looking for one thing..

well exhaust brand new, cheapest i have found $1196.00 shipping not included.

so resuming to look for cheaper or used ones..

I would go Nismo.
Any true dual is gonna give you some loss on such a small motor. 3" would be my max on N/A. . . & it'll give more power than the 2.5 HKS. It only makes sense. Chedman, I think you were quoted wrong

GB it man, I am looking to buy as well. Find 4-5 buyers and we can get it under 1K. Cross reference on my350Z.....

i dont know bro maybe if i had more time to play with the GB i would be down with it.. but i totaled my girl's leased honda, and when i took my FX to get inspected they found a freaking leak and now i have less than 15 days to get a exhaust..

Talk to a Nissan dealer about BG or bulk purchases. They may be willing to drop the price on even a couple of sets sold together.

I have found that my Nismo added a nice kick in the butt at approximately 4K rpm.

logan i will send Thezstore a email and find out about the group buy. if you want try sparking up the interest and see how many can we get for the GB...

anybody have a nismo s video clip on a FX? I'm curious how it sounds and what you guys are talking about.

Also, do they make nismo s for the FX35 or FX50?

for those who have Nismo's exhaust.. beside extending the tip.. do i have to do any more modification to the exhaust.. i heard the Y- pipe need some modification as well i just dont know what.. can someone please let me know.. also does anyone knows how much does muffler shops charge to extend the tips?

well i went ahead and pulled the trigger..!! damage is done.. lol i also added these to the list for my megan racing Cats http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=9238

i saw nismos for nissan 370Z so im guessing that with minor modification it would fit a 09+ FX35. just like we have to do for the 03-08 fx with the nismo S-tune for the 350Z. GTO dave posted a video of him flooring his FX which have a nismos exhaust.. it sound beautiful!!

I decided to use the Nismo Y and ditch the G35 extension. The shop extended the two arms of the y going to the cats. Then it connects directly with the mid and then muffler. Extended tips and done. No extra hangers needed. Then again, I do have an extra set of cats on the 45 so you may still need the extension piece or larger modification of parts.

Sheesh $50.00 a piece for the extentions... http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=4404

True duals (Borla = 8.2 , Injen = 7.6, Stillen = 8.1) gained the most HP on a VQ35DE. The Nismo S-tune gained 6.3 hp in this test.

HKS single, only mid pipe and rear section is quoted by HKS at 6 hp gain. One-off scenario online, I found a G35 owner gained 7.5 hp. Throw in a y-pipe, maybe 6.5 hp gain off HKS's number.

Torque, the duals still beat Nismo, except for Borla, which only gained 2.72 vs Nismo's 4.5. Injen (5.1) and Stillen (7.3) beat Nismo.

I couldn't find any torque gains from HKS, but being a smaller diameter, I am anticipating the same as Nismo, if not slightly higher torque.

These numbers are top end gains, and I would probably guess the HKS faired better than the Nismo throughout the entire curve ever so slightly due to the 2.5". Also, throwing in that Y-pipe should make a somewhat material difference.

That's why you'll see piping diameter typically go smaller than stock for true duals to eliminate any losses for a NA setup.

All that being said, as a daily driver, sound trumps gains for me, as long as their aren't any losses in hp or torque vs stock.

These should somewhat reflect the FX35, but due to the longer pathways, maybe slightly difference, and also due to different engine tuning.

If you are FI, that's a totally different story on piping diameter and you typically want larger.

HKS vs Nismo? Mild go HKS. Louder, go Nismo. HP/torque difference will be unnoticeable.

I'm going to sell my HKS and try something just a tad louder and stay single vs dual...
