Need advice on my audio system! Please help!

I have a 2007 FX35 RWD with the tech package (backup camera, but no navi because I'm in Hawaii :disapointed:) And I was wondering if there was any way an aftermarket head unit can be installed into the OEM system? Or does it have to be separate? All I want is to have a way to control/use my iPod and/or use a headunit that is compatible with Pandora (such as some of ALPINE's lineup of products) without having a separate unit on my dash. Is it pretty much impossible? :disapointed:
 
Welcome! A lot of guys do some trick things with iPod mounts. I'm sure they'll chime in with more specifics. Do you have the rear seat DVD entertainment system to tap into?
 
Unfortunately, I don't have the rear seat DVD system.. :struggle: is that going to make it more complicated? We don't have SIRIUS satellite radio available here in Hawaii, so I figured mounting an Alpine or other Pandora-compatible head unit would be my only saving grace. But I don't know if that's possible without adding an entirely new head unit to the factory installed one. *sigh*
 
Your iPod will likely be the easiest. I'll let the experts who use them on here explain it more.
There's another iS member in your area with a pretty tricked out ride, but I dont know what his audio set up is like.
 
Welcome fellow Hawaii member! I tried to integrate my iPod/flash drive into my stock setup by using the GROM unit, it sucked so bad, worst thing ever. There are other threads here about using some other brands for getting the iPod to work in your system that seem to be real good and problem free. I ended up putting an aftermarket head unit in instead and so far I am very happy. It is allot of work but worth it if you have the stomach to cut things up in your dash cause I had to relocate the stock screen down in front of the shifter to be able to fit the deck in the dash. Im in the middle of doing all the work still but it's coming along slowly. You can swing by my job in waimalu if you wanna check it out. The deck is hooked into the stock system with a metra kit but I added a amp and bazookas to give it a bit more bass.
 
Hahahah, thanks porkandbeans but damn, I was hoping you were talking bout someone else so I could meet some more FX peeps with tricked out rides, I'm feeling lonely out here. Lol

Thanks.. I'm thinking about taking it in to a shop to get someone to take a look and/or give me a quote. I'm reading things on other threads about using the OEM Nissan interface or something called the Peripheral iSimple.. but then again these threads are at least 3 years old - I'm sure they've come up with new things since then yeah? Haha. Can you recommend any other audio shops?
 
[h=1]Oh jeez, it's been at least 15 years since I was into sounds and all the shops I knew are gone. There is a stereo shop next door to my job but I can't say that I have ever heard any of there installs or vouch for their quality of work. I end up buying from crutchfield or Amazon now because of the free shipping to Hawaii (which is a HUGE savings) and install the stuff myself. As far as installing a iPod adapter to the stock stereo, from what I've read it seems relatively straight forward and easy to do if you are somewhat handy working on cars. [/h]
 
Check out MediaBridge from Dice Electronics. It gives you the ability to integrate with the OEM headunit. It enable BT, and Grom etc. Search for it on IS and org.

Even if you don't have the rear entertainment system, you can short two wires together to convince your car that you do, then splice a 1/8" mini cable right into the same harness to integrate your iPod.

As far as controlling the songs, that's another story, I don't think I would ever put a ton of effort into integrating anything that brand-specific into a car.

For my own FX, I put a 100gb MP3/video player in under the armrest with an IR repeater since it came with a remote, then hacked the NAV system to show the video and display screen up front (or in the back for that matter).
