Nav while moving mod

I've got some pictures from our meet the other day when we (Toncruse, Rubare, and I) completed the Nav while moving mod on Rubare's FX.

This first pic shows the cut in to the nav connector. The break in the wire gets the switch installed in line.

This second picture shows the dash dropped. The blank switch is to be the location of the of the new switch.
To drop the panel requires removing the plastic door sill, and the kick panel.

The next picture shows the modification to the switch blank. Trimming the blank was accomplished by using a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel, and then fin tuned with a utility knife.

Here is the new swich fitted in to the blank. I used a Stanley high temperature hot glue gun to hold the switch to the blank. I used a hot glue that is designed to be used with non-porous materials (both available at Sears).

And lastly, here is the switch installed in the dash.

So Rubare, How do you like it so far?

Love it!! Thank you alan! The switch location it's perfect! I already put it to used and it's amazing great mod. A most have!!!

This was one of the first mods I did. There is a thread at the .org that shows the differences on all years. I got lazy and placed the switch on the cover under the passenger seat..

This was also one of the first and easiest mods Ive done. But like Eg3, located the switch under passenger seat and have to ask the wife to hit the switch every time...so I will have to relocate it

There was a little issue with intermittent stalling of the GPS and sometimes not tracking properly with this mod from my recollection. Has that been resolved?

ive never had a problem with mine... sometimes it takes a minute to start working again after you flip the switch as the satellite catches up....

There were a couple of times when it didn't resume working even when the switch was off. Another on/off solved it each time. Still, it's one of the most useful & cheap mods..

thanks guys it's a great mod and the location I picked it was the perfect one. Passengers won't hit it with their legs/feet by mistake. I love it.. Now I don't have to pull over or sprint to the next red light!!

Great mod. I did it in about an hour and a half :tears:. I wired the switch the day before. I must have tugged too hard on one of the wires during the install and it came off. Of course, it was shrink wrapped and the very last connection I checked (after six test drives). Maybe I'm growing increasingly stupid in my old age.

Is there a DIY for this associated with a 2006-2008 FX? I have an 07 and went to do this today, there is not a grey and a white connector like the DIY on the org. Only white connectors. The diagram and pictures are definitely different from my FX. I think the person who posted it did the work on a 03-05 FX.

I found the grey wire, but it is not in the "28" location like the directions say. There are also two dark grey wires near the light grey wire, so I decided to stay away until I find out more.

Any help is appreciated.

yeah its not the 28 location anyway.. i did it on my 05 fx and trying to find that 28 cable was so confusing.. just post a picture of your 07 where aall the cables are at and i might be able to help bro.

Can you point me to the DYI page on how to do this please?
