Just thought I'd write up this little review for you guys. Since I was in service today I thought I would walk over to the sales department and check out the new 2013 Infiniti JX35. This is actually my first time seeing one up close and being inside of one. I have seen a few out on the road already which goes to show sales must be doing pretty good.
A little note before I start. I never got to test drive it or turn it on and play with the electronics as the battery was disconnected. Probably customer screwing with the toys too much in the show room. Plus I need to schedule a test drive to do it.
Seeing it up close and personal the JX35 is a really nice looking crossover. In pictures it's not exactly eye catching but in person it looks really nice and luxurious looking on the outside. I love the way the headlights look. Only thing I'm not too sure about is that jagged C pillar on the back. It kind of looks like they tried to do the same lightning bolt line Honda did on the new current Odyssey. It would take some time to get use to. Another thing I don't really care for is the lack of the exhaust not being shown. They did away with it being able to have dual exhausts and gave it a clean shaven look. The exhaust is hidden behind the bumper so nothing about the back is sporty. Then again people buying this car aren't going for sporty looks. They want everything simple looking. This is a family mover after all!
As for the fit and finish on the outside it's pretty good. The gaps in the body lines look to be even all around. Nothing looks like it was put on wrong or half assed on the outside. I also noticed the doors like the FX and other Infiniti's I've been in have a nice solid "THUNK" sound when you close and open the doors. Almost like the sound of a vault door. This shows some good quality engineering there! The doors don't feel cheap at all when opening and closing. I know it sounds dumb but these are little things I pay attention to. I also notice a sticker on the outside that shows information as to where it was assembled and where the parts to build it were obtained. Its some sticker that required by the U.S for all automobiles sold here.
FYI on what the sticker said:
Final Assembly: Smyrna, Tennessee
Country of Origin: Japan
40% of the parts in the JX are from the U.S and Canada
60% of the parts are from Japan
Engine and Transmission is fully assembled in Japan
Good to know atleast some of it is still from Japan. I thought the engine was assembled at their other engine assembly plant in Tennessee, but apparently not lol. Good to know as I know some were weary of it's quality since it's built in the U.S
Anyways on to the interior. Up in the front on the driver and passenger side there is a good amount of leg, shoulder, and hip room. I could also say the same for the 2nd row. Only thing is the 3rd row it's very tight back there. I'm 5'9 and my head hits the ceiling if I sit straight up. It's definately for little kids and not full sized adults. Leg room in the 3rd row while better than competitors, it's still pretty tight. I find if you have a family of 7 people in the JX, your going to be spending quite some time adjusting all the seats in all 3 rows so everyone can ride comfortably without hitting their legs. Trunk room is okay for what it is. If you have a whole bunch of luggages though be prepared not to use that 3rd row seat. It will have to be folded down cause no away are you going to get a whole bunch of stuff in the trunk without one or two of those 3rd row seats being folded down. One thing the JX beats in all it's competitors in it's class is the ability to get in and out of the 2nd and 3rd row. On other vehicles I find myself hitting my legs into something getting out. I love the way the 2nd row seat slides up so easily to let people in the 3rd row out. This is great!! No wonder Infiniti markets the car in the commercial about this feature.
Anyways enough about the room inside. On to the ergonomics! The JX has a really nice luxurious looking interior. The one in the show room had wheat interior with some kind of dark maple wood I believe. I think it's a really nice color combo and contrasts really well. I would of liked to see java though since that's one of my favorites now. I was looking at the fit and finish inside and everything feels solid and no gaps in between the trim. Only thing I caught though is the the rubber door seal around the back passenger side door kept coming off. I'm not sure if that uses adhesive to stick on or some customer did it in the showroom but it was hanging off. I just pushed it back on. Everytime I would open the door I could hear the seal being pulled right back off again. No big deal though. Someone might of messed with it. Nothing feels cheap though and they used some really soft leather on the seats. I also love the gold colored piping too and the stitching. They also used nice leather stitching up the side of the dash, console, and doors. Only plastic thing I found though was that half of the door on the bottom of the door where the door pocket is and around the speaker it's hard plastic. Although the door has some nice soft leather stitching on the top. Looks like the other half of the door got no love lol. Just a little surprised since the door on the FX is fully padded with no plastic. Still very nice looking.
Wish someone would explain this to me but for the first time ever this has to be the first current Infiniti I've seen with no analog clock!! And that's always been a signature of Infiniti interiors. The JX has no analog clock on the console and this probably is the first Infiniti that I've seen without one. Kind of a bummer since I like the analog clock. Always gives their interiors that classic luxurious look. Next time I'm in sales I'll ask about that. Also I'd like to note there is alot of storage in the center console and the cup holds are huge. The ones in my FX suck cause sometimes I order two large sodas from Burger King and they never fit with two at the same time lmao. :tongue (2):
This is all of my review for now. Again I couldn't really comment on the electricals as the battery was disconnected in the show room and it looks like this one wasn't fully loaded with the pano roof, cooled seats, etc etc etc. Once I get a chance to test drive sometime I will update this thread on it's drive. I know some things I mentioned may not mean much to some of you on here, but for me it's the little details that matter. This really is a great car though and I can see why it won Ward's top 10 best interiors.
Thanks for looking guys!
