My knee hurts!

Weird question here...

I have a dull pain in my right knee that started around the same time I bought my FX. I commute approximately 2-3 hours daily so I'm in the car quite a bit and I'm wondering if perhaps the seat is putting pressure on the back of my knee in an odd way.

Prior to the FX my daily driver was a Murano which has very cushy seats and a very different seating position. I never had knee pain driving that vehicle.

I've been trying to adjust the seat to see if anything helps but wanted to ask here - has anyone else experienced anything like this? Weird question, I know...

My shot in the dark diagnosis is that you have a tight IT band and causing tendinitis in your knee. Get a foam roller and roll that IT band out (youtube it).

Speak with your medical professional prior to any treatment (disclaimer).

Sorry I can't offer any valid insight into your problem other than the seating position is different. You said you came out of a Murano, so maybe the night and day differences of driving the two cars are giving you a lot of excitement causing "knee-jerk reactions".

Where is it specifically? So much goes on with the knee, could be so many different things.

Could be many things but a lot would depend on your history, age, prior injuries and medical history. But if you never experienced knee problems before the switch to the FX it could be coincidental or related to other factors. But the change in seat position and thereby the angle your knee is positioned while driving for prolonged periods, could have brought about an underlying condition which you may not have experienced otherwise or sometime later down the line. Many diagnoses are probable, ITB syndrome (like Chedman said), Patellofemoral arthralgia, patellar tendinitis, loose body, bursitis, synovial cyst, arthritic disorder, internal derangement (unlikely from your history), and among others. I suggest you consult your physician if your condition worsens.

Or LCL,, holy crap Deeto where do you work?

I work in Cambridge but live about 30 miles west of the city.

Where is it specifically? So much goes on with the knee, could be so many different things.

I think it has something to do with the angle of my leg and the way the front of the seat comes up behind my knee. The pain starts directly behind my knee and radiates around the front right below my kneecap.

I'll try some different positions and see if anything helps.

Doc, thanks for the info. I've never had knee issues so I'm not sure where this problem is coming from. Hopefully finding a slightly different seating position will take pressure off.

Lol. Logan, geez. hilarious
I agree with doc. Except I would include additional possibilities like IBS and priapism.

In all seriousness, can you not drive the FX for a week or trade cars with someone? (Spouse? Parent?)
If it's a real injury, I suggest taking care of it correctly. I don't think knees heal themselves too well.

Besides the pain which radiates, is there any "crunchy" sensation when you bend your knee , or any locking of the joint? Swelling or decreased range of motion? And what about going up or down stairs, does it hurt more to go downstairs?
