My future FX, possibly

In need your guys opinions. I've been following this ad on craigslist for the past few weeks and can't believe the price on it. I absolutely want the Mojave copper with Java interior and have been waiting on one to show up. I'm a bit skeptical about the price on it and am thinking of checking it out since its a 2 hr drive away.

The price was originally 31k and has recently dropped to $28.5k

Does anyone by chance happen to have any knowledge on this FX? It's located in Sacramento, ca

VIN:
JNRAS18U69M102291

$28.5k? That seems very low. I would head over there and take it to an Infiniti dealership to have them do an inspection. If it passes, take it, that's a hell of a deal.

you can call the dealer that serviced the ride and they may be able provide info on the maintenance (i was able to do this before on another infiniti). ask the seller for the carfax, and pay for an inspection by infiniti dealer. if everything checks out, then it is a steal!

good luck and welcome to IS.

Infiniti dealers, maybe even any dealer, should be able to pull up the complete records. I know somewhere I have a bunch of papers that show every thing that happened to my FX prior to me getting it. Lists the mileage, which dealer, and what was done.

If thats legit, that a pretty good deal if you ask me. I paid more for mine and I dont have the deluxe touring package, although mine is CPO. Go check it out...

I talked to someone at the dealer thats selling the FX currently. He said it was bought at a dealer auction, so im going to call the dealers name that is on the front plates to see if this is a CPO and has the extended drivetrain warranty.

I also have the seller sending me a carfax

Ergh, the search continues.

I just talked to the original dealer that sold this at auction. He said they were trying to get this certified as CPO, but the car had some issues with the tranny, reason being why they sold it off instead.

The listing is a lie. First off it does not have the deluxe touring package. If it had the deluxe touring package it would have 20" wheels, maple wood trim, adaptive headlights, etc etc. If you notice this vehicle has none of that. So already caught them on one thing wrong.

Also it's only a base model with the nav package by the way.

I'd also check the Carfax if I were you. Price seems kind of suspicious especially if it had been previously auctioned off and you said the dealer reported a tranny problem which means it was probably a lemon before??

It's always good to stay on top of the ads, just too bad about the bummer info.
Staying informed is the best way to make a confident quick buy when the right ones does come around. You've become a stronger and wiser shopper today.

I don't get it...it looks like it has every package? Guy probably just doesnt know what the deluxe touring is...Regardless, for a special edition 09 with 44k and navi, that's a STEAL..and it's still got original Infiniti warranty, so powertrain is good til 70k..

Don't see anything wrong with this car? If the tranny has an issue, get it fixed under warranty for free?

Nah a warranty isn't going to help. If it was returned because of a tranny problem that means the car was probably lemoned off before. Meaning Infiniti attempted to fix it several times and couldn't.

Carfax gives a false sense of security. I was in a hit and run with an mta bus, and that accident never showed up through Carfax. Even though it was fixed through my insurance .

Also my other current car was involved in an accident before I bought it. I asked for a Carfax and dealer services. All came back fine.
One day my trunk was filled with water after a heavy rain. I took it to a dealer where they found the rear quarter panel was hammered out from an accident and there was a crack between two panels allowing water to enter. I got advice from a lawyer and went back to the original dealer that just repaired the quarter panels.

So even with a Carfax, you really have to go over the car with a fine toothed comb.

I agree. My Accord was repaired by the dealer, about 7-8k worth of damages. Went through insurance. I checked carfax right before trading it in and it was clear. Carfax only reports what is reported to them, so if you dont do your own inspection, it gives you a false sense of security.

One thing I noticed last time I was searching for a car is that it didnt seem Infiniti reports much to carfax since they have their own "database" in which they can look up a car's history (assuming out was serviced by an Infiniti dealer). Only things like title transfer and record of state inspections would show up. When I would look up the carfax of say, an Acura MDX, I would see when it got its oil changes, if the brake pads were replaced, if the steering/alignment was checked, etc. So for an Infiniti, a report from the dealer could give alot more info than carfax. In this case, it should tell you if/when they worked on the transmission, and how many times they had to try to fix it. might even tell you what the concern was. I think a couple people already mentioned doing the same thing. I would ask the dealer for a print out of the car's history.

I guess that goes to show that you can never know what's been all done to a car. Every single one of us could be driving in something that's been in 2-3 accidents without us even knowing about it. An inspection is about all you can do to any car these days. I'd say this fx35 mentioned looks great, and as long as it sounds and drives great, its just as good of an fx35 as any other fx out there.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've decided not to pursue this particular fx. I'm still tempted to go down to the dealer to see if there is anything about the tranny in the service records.

Keep the search on! I know you really want a copper FX. It is worth the wait to find the combo you want. You will be happy you did in the end. :wink (2):
