My friend needs help with his Maxima really bad!!

Not really sure, but I think he bought it with 40K something miles and it's a 2004. I'm not too sure about the whole car though. I've been taking him to the dealer, so I know a little on what's going on with it.
 
My throttle body problem gave the exact same issues you have described. SES and VDC lights light up on the dash...car goes no where, and you have to floor it to go anywhere..at about 3mph. Luckily I was under warranty when I had mine replaced

Have the dealer check the throttle body sensor(P2135). If it's bad...they have to change out the whole throttle body.

ALSO, make sure there is no U1000 code being thrown....this is a ECM grounding issue and can cause the same effects.
 
So after 16 days of my friend not having his Maxima, the dealership called and said the car was done. It took a while to get the flex plate or fly wheel or whatever you want to call it. I drove him to go pick it up. Dealer says they changed it and drove the car the whole day to confirm the SES light for the crank shaft sensor and VDC off light doesn't come back on. He drove around it in all day yesterday too and the car drove real good with no problems. This morning he came to my house to meet up with me and on his way over here the whole car started to lose power again and would barely go. Then he heard a booming loud grinding noise and the VDC off light came on with the SES light. The car wouldn't go. You had to floor it to go and the whole car was clunking when shifting from park to drive, and reverse and neutral.

He had it towed back to the Nissan dealer today where it's now sitting over there and the problem is still not fixed. The master technician is the one that's been working on it and even he is stumped on what the problem is. Guess it's time for a call to Nissan corporate.
 
^ wow crazy....maybe he can get another car out of the deal if it's still under warranty otherwise they'll spend forever time/money on the issue.
 
All those symptoms sound like the tranny is gone. The crankshaft position center is mounted on the flexplate (I do remember that from my '97 Maxima when we swapped the motor). So it's probably just a symptom of something very wrong with the transmission and not the cause of the problem.
