If you are taping into the wiring that was going into the BOSE sub amp, you are using low level inputs.

If you are taping into an actual speaker....left/right etc....then you are using the high level inputs and would use the adaptor.

David, you should be using these wires for your set-up to your amp.

Subwoofer signal: Positive- White
Negative- Black
Amplifier Ground- Black
Amplifier Turn-on- Pink
Amplifier Constant Power- Gray (2003)
Green/Red (2004+)


If you cutoff the head of the rca:
Positive from RCA to white sub wire
negative(or shielding) from rca to black sub wire
pink is your Remote wire.

That's it...very easy to do. The green (or grey for 2003) and the big black wires will not be used to power your amp, your getting that from the battery run and a new fresh ground.

so that wire that goes into the sub is post amp? or pre amp? I took the bose sub apart-is that part inside of the box not the subwoofer amp?
The stock headunit has rca's?

I think i understand now. they must be sme type of pre amp signal unless the bose amp is designed to have speaker/high level inputs

how do i find out what kind of outputs our factory head unit has??

Just a added note. The factory remote turn on lead is not strong enough to turn on the aftermarket amp. Your going to have wire up your own remote turn on lead.

There is two amps in the car. One for your interior and one for the bass.

1. Think of the signal as travelling from the source (cd/mp3 player/radio) to the speakers. The cd would be "before" the speakers. That said, any wiring between the cd and amp is "pre-amp", and anything between the amp and the speakers is post-amp.

2. The box you showed next to your new amp in the pictures is the oem Bose sub amp. The two sets of red+green wires coming out are the "high level" leads going from the amp to the two woofers inside the enclosure.

3. "RCA" is a connector type, like S-Video or HDMI. Your head unit does have low level outputs going to the sub amp, but they are likely not RCA connectors.

5. The way you can tell whether or not your head unit is powered is by determining whether or not your speakers have an external amplifier. It would be wasteful for a manufacturer to amplify a signal before sending it to another amplifier, so based on the mere existence of the oem sub amp you can be sure that the subwoofer output from the deck is low level.

The only time high level inputs on an amp *should* be used is when your have a powered head unit and is not meeting your amplification needs.

i plan to try the pink wire first.i have a small amp-maybe it will trigger it. I really dont want to have to try to get to a wire that is only on with the car if there isnt one in the back
 
Small or big, don't matter. I went through this. It's not strong enough. All you need is a switched 12v power. (whole cars electrical system is 12v) Source that turns on with the car and off with the car.
 
All I know about the pink wire is that it doesn't work 100% of the time. It couldn't hurt to try it though before you run a wire from the cig lighter or buy an adapter...

To clarify, the pink wire does not ALWAYS work... The "100% of the time..." bit reads funny.

wish i had seen that LOC with a remote turn on feature. I thought i was set with the pink wire. Is there a wire in the back that will work? any 12v wires go to the rear wiper motor? I took it out. Not sure if they only have power when i turn on the rear wiper

i just though of the anchorman quote about 70% of the time it works everytime (or something like that)

That's not a good idea to use that wire. So when your amps are on, your rear wiper is on at the same time. Not good. You need a constant 12v power that is switched off and in with the ignition.

i removed the rear wiper
via rear wiper delete

wiper motor is in my garage
