Motorcycle Riders

I bought my street bike over on eBay, but I searched bike forums for my track bike. There are constantly a lot of people posting their bikes for sale on forums, as well as selling lots of parts

looking for a 1000 for sure. everyone i spoke to told me that getting a 600-750 would be a bad mistake because i will get bored sooner than later. still searching ebay and craigslist but not seeing anything yet.

at my job this is for sale excellent condition 2011 Yamaha Stryker very low mileage, 1304cc for $6000. i really want a street bike but this offer is really tempting.

to make it look younger, i would probably black out the chrome cause i absolutely hate chrome, remove the little windshield.

and definelty remove the drop bars once i get the handle of the balance and become comfortable

Since you're looking for a sport bike I would reconsider this conclusion. I have a lot of seat time on different 600s and I can say with certainty your ability will never eclipse the bike's. 600s are lighter, more nimble and more forgiving than liter bikes yet they accelerate hard enough to drain the blood from your head.

My 06 R6 with exhaust and power commander put out 121 hp at the wheel. It pulled like a rabid dog. A f*cking rabid dog.

Its your first bike. Grab a used late model 600 with some mods for short money and have fun.

Youre spot on. Know a few novice riders who jumped on a litre bike from the start. Out of 3, 2 needed up wrecked.

It's not that it would be too much to handle, it's just unnecessary for your first bike. A liter bike is very unforgiving and really easy to get into trouble on. It will respond to a miscalculated throttle input unmercifully. I'm not saying you couldn't handle it... but why risk it when a 600 is just as exhilarating yet safer?

I've been riding over 30 years. I've done countless track days and raced with some of the best amateurs/AMA semi pros in New England. So take from this old guy what you will. Just whatever you do, make your decision based on what's best for you, not whats best for your riding buddies.

I agree with Deeto. Think about why you want a liter bike. Is it just for status? There are plenty of other attributes about bikes which provide that awe factor besides displacement. You can have plenty of fun on a 600-750. Just do it right.
As far as getting bored of it . . . yes you will, regardless of what you start with. You might as well start with a 6 or 7, then move to something else, maybe evan another 6 or 7. Your riding preference might change between sport and cruiser. There are so many great bikes out there to choose from.

so i should start with 600's-700's cc for the first bike? 1000cc and plus would be to much to handle off the bat huh

If you like Suzuki get a 750, it's a good mid-range bike. I agree with Deeto that a 1000 is very unforgiving, I sometimes lift my front wheel with little effort exiting a lean by cracking the throttle hard on my 1000. Everybody is different though, I got bored of my 600 very fast (three months), and I was a novice with NO bike experience, I couldn't even drive stick. The one thing I miss about my 600 is actually riding it through all the gears. Being that we live in the city I don't feel like I ride my 1000 to even half of the bikes capabilities. Between light to light riding and traffic, on a 1000 you will spend most of your street time in 1st and 2nd gear and most of your highway time in 3rd or 4th gear. I rarely use 5th and 6th gear in NY most of the time you will run out of road first lol. On a 600 you will use the gears more often therefore learning the bike better. All that being said, when I had my 600 I kept up with the bigger bikes MOST of the time with no aftermarket upgrades other than an aftermarket steering damper.

The problem with this is that in NY there is no such thing as a used late model ANYTHING for short money. Ever since the price of a brand new sports bike has gone up, people have followed suit and raised their selling point price regardless of the year. Of course I'm talking about later models though, if the year is 08 or better and the mileage is low the price is usually an investment nowadays. More of an investment than to want to buy with the intentions of upgrading after a year or two. It sounds to me like hammermill is looking for a bike he plans on keeping for a while. A few years back you could buy a good used 600, learn it, then sell it and upgrade without loosing too much money. It's not that easy to do that anymore.

You will have fun regardless I know people who learned on 1000's and have never wrecked (knock on wood). Buy what you like, TAKE A GOOD COURSE LIKE TRAMA'S, this way you learn the correct way to do things and not the short cuts that most street riders will teach you, and take your time learning the bike and you should be fine. Here is the link to a very good three day course that will give your your license after successful completion. When I took the class I had already been riding for three months and boy was I doing a lot of things wrong. It was one day in the class room and two days on a bike, they will teach you everything from learning the sweet spot on the clutch, to the proper way to look through a turn. Ask around they come highly recommend in NY: http://www.tramas.com/

This was my first bike. '83 Suzuki GS750ES. I had never ridden a street bike before I handed over the money for it. Almost dropped it at a stop light on the way home too. Haha.

I had it dyno'd once at a Harley meet and it made a whopping 81hp at the wheel. Felt like at least 600 though compared to the Supra I was driving prior. I only have maybe two photos of it (real photos, not digital pics) and I don't even know how long it's been since I've seen one. Looking through google images just now sure makes me miss it. :(

I always wanted a bike. I've been looking at those Kawasaki bikes they do sound and look sweet! But how hard is it to get your motorcycle license? I'm still confused on how you get lol. Are bike's really that dangerous to ride? I'm sure my family wouldn't appreciate me buying one but oh what the hell. I wouldn't mind spending some cash on a brand new Kawasaki!

1. U don't buy a new bike as a first bike.

2. Its pretty easy to get a M endorsement here in IL. Getting a permit is extremely easy.

3. Bikes are not dangerous at all. U have the same chance to get into an accident as a car, actually less because in some cases u can power out of a possible accident. Ride like no one sees you is one of the best things someone told me.

4. Them bringing back the 636 ninja makes me want one so much more. If I don't get a Daytona 675.

Get one!!! I'm on my second one in 3 years.

^ my first bike was a new bike. Bought it right after I finished a course on how to ride them a few years back. So was my uncles and 2 of my cousins.

Most end up dropping it least once. I didn't but many people online post about it. Small percentage of people after a season call it quits and either sell or leave it in the garage for years. Think of it like your first car.

neva4self, yo u are 100% right. I'm finding it very difficult to find a late model used bike for "short money" in nyc. My budget is around 6,000 which i thought would be more than enough to get a basic late model learning bike but i thought wrong. I've been on both craigslist and ebay and not much of a selection for a 750cc-1000cc for this type of money. thats why the offer at my job is super tempting cause it is in my budget, in great condition. not really beefing about it being a cruiser cause i think that i can make it look younger if i black out most of the blue and remove the crash bar.
