Morimoto Elite HID System

Morimoto Elite HID System H8 Fog Lights:

Anyone tried this yet ? Is it really worth the $150 ? Fireonic was a big fan of MM , I had nothing but bad luck with their HID Bulbs but that doesn't mean anything.

I used DDM ballasts and wiring with Morimoto bulbs and I haven't had a problem.

I just bought their headlight bulbs. Hope they are good

I did purchase a VVME digital fog light kit and so far could not be happier! Bought from the MFG off eBay. Gave me a two year warranty versus the standard 1 year if you were to go to their website.

TRS gets the Morimoto stuff from basically the same Chinese vendors as everyone else. Morimoto is just their house brand. The only difference is that they are better about quality control and inspections along with a better warranty. That said, the quality isn't necessarily better, sometimes people just get unlucky.

I had Morimoto in my BMW and they were excellent. I have the Chinese vendor’s version in my 300ZX Twin Turbo. The statement above /\, I'm not sure about. I certainly saw a difference in the quality between the two, as well as performance. Morimoto no regrets, just my two cents.

Just search, it's pretty common knowledge. Morimoto is TRS' house brand, they get them made the same as everyone else, in China. The difference is that TRS does quality control and will test and check the products. Anything that doesn't meet their standard won't go out. Look at how many garage sales they have or their "value" projectors which are ones that haven't been tested and tweaked. The eBay vendors just buy them in big batches and ship anything, it's hit or miss. Look at how many other vendors offer the exact same products - everyone just finds a Chinese supplier and rebrands them, bulbs, ballasts, you name it. Made in China doesn't mean low quality; TRS is getting their stuff from the same places the others are, they just do much better quality control and testing. That's what makes them better.

I'm not knocking Morimoto, just explaining why some people have great experiences and some don't. The number of people who have good experiences with Morimoto will be much higher than those who have good experiences with DDM or an eBay vendor. That's because TRS does quality control, they don't put that burden on the customer like DDM. DDM has a lifetime warranty, but it's pretty worthless if you have to pay to ship bulbs back to them multiple times.

While yes they are from a Chinese vendor, they are also made a tad but different than cheap eBay knock offs and DDM stuff. It just isn't about quality control and testing.

If you get the Morimoto headlight bulbs such as D2S or D1S etc etc they are made with metal legs surrounding the capsule that house the salt mix you see inside of the capsule. These metal legs insure that the capsule is lined up perfectly inside of the projector lens to insure the best cutoff possible putting them up there with Phillips and Osram. Ive done some testing with bulbs myself and the Morimoto bulbs for headlight use has a better cutoff than DDM and eBay knockoff bulbs due to the fact the Morimotos have a better aligned capsule from the metal legs.
